I hate to say it, but this episode was such an enormous let down on so many levels. I didn't find myself laughing at all, which never happened during the first 2 Seasons of Earl, but had happened many times throughout this 3rd season. I was desperately hoping for this episode to put Earl back on track and have the show return to what makes it such a great viewing experience - magnificent writing and acting, a top notch cast, and episodes that follow in the tradition of what the show was intended. This episode just has Earl and Billie in comas, imagining that they are in the movie 'Pleasantville' (a film where 2 teens get transported into a TV show about the perfect lives of suburbanites and such) and what the rest of Earl's crew does to try to get him help and wake him from his coma. Sound funny? I didn't think so.moreless

    Talk about "phoning it in"...

The director must have been in a country with bad phone service, because the actors and crew clearly had no idea what he wanted. Well, he was probably calling from a bar somewhere, stoned off his rocker.

And the actors, usually a reliable bunch, looked like they were reading from teleprompters!

And the canned laughter, intended to be funny/satirical, was just sad and only re-inforced the feeling of bad writing, acting, direction, and general nausea.

This show had a terrific first year, an adequate second year (barring a few boring episodes), and an uninspiring third year.

This often happens when writers and producers suddenly have a hit, and decide to "stretch it out" - to "make our limited talents" last longer.

Sheesh. With the two-part episode this bad, using any criteria you wish (okay, lighting was not so bad), this was a disaster.

AVOID this if you are a fan of Earl.

Scored 1.0 because the system doesn't allow a ZERO ...moreless

If you agree with this i expect you will agree with pee_ter_griffen's review (see above, possibly below... just look for it!!).

This episode was the sort of laugh out loud episode I have been missing with South Park & Family guy which have been off par of late, not the Simpson's though... consistency (anyway that's a different thing altogether). I loved the reason for the faith healer losing his faith, the e-fits of Earl and Joy and what the news reader says about them... it just had me in stitches.

The Doctor was hilarious and Having watched the episode yesterday, his lines still stand out in the episode and i am still laughing about them now.

I wasn't overly impressed with the 60's style American sitcom thing but the episode didn't lack because of it, it was just... different!!

The only reason this episode didn't get a 10 from me is Paris Hilton... I have to keep my reviews clean so I don't feel free to express myself properly here. I do have a mild dislike of her (to say the least) so I'm sure that added to it. maybe because of my hatred for her (mild dislike I mean, of course), I just refuse to see anything she does as positive but she can't act. she was terrible. anyway I wont waste anymore time on the only unpleasant part of the episode.

Joy was great, her one liners were spot on and when she was "talking to crazy", I couldn't stop laughing.

all in all, a brilliant way to bring early back. it was perfect that it came back with a double episode and they used every minute to fill it with laughs.moreless

After a double accident, Earl and Billie are lying unconscious on the street. While Earl is in a coma, his mind creates a sitcom world, where he is married to Billie. In the real world, Randy takes matters into his own hands to save Earl. Ensue complete comedy as My Name is Earl springs back after last week's faux pas as all the ambulance scenes are hilarious. Darnell zaps the sides of Earl's head as well as his own, Catalina's crazy rant about bodies, Joy's one-liners are gold and then an unconscious Earl is kidnapped by a crazy woman who caused Earl to have an involuntary orgasm then when the gang take him back she shoots him in the butt and of course as Randy stole the ambulance, the paramedic and police officer travel by foot to get Billie to the hospital. All in under half an hour. Hopefully the next part is even better as this was hilarious. The sitcom scenes were also good but not as good as the real story.moreless
