  • Joy gives birth in a hostage situation

    9.2
    "Superb"
Joy goes into labour in unusual circumstances in this hilarious episode of Earl, which has a hostage situation, a birth of a surrogate child, a few months off a sentence and an exaggerated recap, all the makings of a funny episode.

Earl and Randy's search for Frank warrants itself to many funny moments, with a dog, the leadership tension, and Randy's authority being very funny.

Earl's logic in letting the situation play out without cops, and the coincidences that lead to Frank's capture are very good, and this episode is very amusing, along with Joy giving birth which has many great moments coinciding with Darnell's inducing.moreless

  • Earl and Randy have been ordered to catch an escaped Frank, while Joy is looking to give birth. Both events converge when it turns out Frank is at the trailer, where he ends up holding Joy, Darnell, Earl, Randy, Liberty and Ray Ray hostage.moreless

This episode looks like an instant classic, in the same screwball manner of other great sit-com child birth episodes. And Earl and Randy continue to spar while looking for Frank. We see an unusually cruel Randy, while Earl is just plain frustrated. It seems to be part of the continuing evolution of Randy. I like how they are trying to have him grow more while Earl is locked up, but as it happens in this episode, he is a better follower than leader. Joy is simply at her wildest in this episode. This is a tour-de-force for Jaime Pressly who already has an Emmy from last season, and this could get her another. Michael Rappaport has brought an interesting new element with Frank, and his work in this episode is terrific. This is just an overall great episode, and it has to rank with the funniest episodes of the series so far. I was a little concerned what putting Earl in prison would do to the show, but so far, its given the show a new element, especially with Craig T. Nelson adding more of a kind of political satire. And this episode just shows that I have nothing to worry about.moreless

I thought that this episode of my name is earl was pretty good. Again like all other episodes I think that Joy makes the entire show. I love the way she talks and acts. She's a really great actress. I hope she has more jobs in her future. I really like this show. Everything in it is so trailor trashy it's completly hilarious. I love it so much haha. I thought that Earl's story line in prison would get old after awhile, but it's not. Thankfully they're finding ways to keep the plot moving which is a very good thing. I cant wait until next weeks show.moreless

This was a pretty good episode. I laughed outloud more time that I have most recently with Earl episodes.

However, I was a little confused about Randy's behavior towards Earl through most of it. But then I guess he was just trying to assert his dominance. Some of my favorite parts. Frank, holding the gun and the money and trying to get out of the trailer, hears the police pull up. He says "Crap. The cops are here. I've got placentas on my feet...."

Ray Ray and Darnell are talking to the cop, you can hear Joy scream in the back ground. The cop asks what that was and Ray Ray says "Oh, it's just his (Darnel) wife giving birth to my baby."

Darnell, after being accidentally injected with labour inducing drugs, begins having "labour" pains. He says "If I strain too hard I'm afraid I'm going to give birth to poop-tup-lets."moreless
