Earl finds out that prison life is going to be harder than it is. Randy is having a hard time living without Earl by his side, so Joy and Darnell take him in. Earl encounters one of the people on his list, Glen. Earl helps Glen by making him earn his scout badges, which in turn leads to Glen getting parole. Well after Earl is put in jail, in last seasons finale I expected the third series to be not as good as the first two but this episode is probably one of my favourites so far, I thought it was really funny when Earl went to punch the big man and when Earl tried to hang out with all the different gangs, it was really funny when he punched the old guy, I also Liked the second half of the episode. A great start to season 3.moreless

  • As a lot of us probably just saw, they combined parts I and II where Earl goes to jail for a one hour 'special' on 2/21/08. Had forgotten a lot of the lines and gags and it was a real treat to see them again. Going to prison...(some spoilers)moreless

...starts a new direction for this show (even though we now know he gets out), but let's pretend, for the moment, we don't know how things turn out. It is amazing how accurately portrayed that life inside the prison is, and you almost have to think that the writers for this show 'did some time'. The ironic, sarcastic and just laugh-out-loud humor of these two episodes puts this series in a class by itself. We are constantly amazed at how funny Earl, Randy, Joy and Darnell are. Randy's character is especially suited for every 'Box of Rocks' gag that you (they) can think of. Joy is the classic b!tch and Jaime Pressley plays her to perfection. The off-beat approach of Darnell is a perfect contrast to the rest of the characters.

As for Earl (Jason Lee), I can no longer remember how Lee normally acts. It will be hard for him to ever play another role after this. For most of us, he is and forever shall be, Earl.moreless

  • Earl's starts his new life in prison

    9.2

I like this episode as it introduces Earl to having to deal with prison life in a hilarious way with a great start to the season with Ralph escaping, Earl trying to fit in, Sonny teaching Earl how to be invisible and at the end of the episode, Earl getting back to his list.

It was important that this happen at the end because it was well plotted to get Earl used to his new environment before getting screwed over at the very end and being forced to get back to his list. It'll be interesting to see how he gets out of this one.

The visiting hours were quite funny aswell, with Randy, Joy and Earl all coming to a compromise to get Earl and Joy even, and get Randy to have someone help him since he can't survive on his own.

Overall, this episode proves that life in prison will not make Earl any less funny than he's been before, and will continue to be an entertaining show.moreless

  • Joy's spider line ALONE gives this one a rating of TEN!!!!

Continues to be the ONLY current comedy that actually can make me laugh out LOUD!I could give it a perfect rating just based on the spider line by Joy. I have been trying to find the exact quote with no luck so far.*sigh*:( Ah.....the visual of the "little vibrating ball" lingers on....HAHAHA!

I had no idea where they were going to go with Earl in jail, but it just goes to show, one must have faith in the amazing writers there. They managed to open the season with endless possibilities. Can't wait to see where their twisted minds take it to next. EXCELLENT show!!!!moreless

    • Earl: Since there was a hole in my cell, I was moved to general population, so I went from sharing a private cell with a childhood friend to joining a two year slumber party with murderers and rapists. Edit
    • Earl: You know the kind of guy who confesses to a crime he didn't commit so his ex-wife won't have to go to prison, the kind of guy who leaves his brother all alone and his friends with nothing to jump for? Well, that's me. And for the next two years, my name is inmate number 28301-016. Edit
    • (Joy makes a quilt depicting memories from Earl's life) Joy: You like it? I used up all my felt. Earl: It's amazing. These are all scenes from my life? Joy: Yeah, it's like a straight version of one of those AIDS quilts. Earl: Thank you Joy. I won't forget this. Ha, ha! (Looks at embroidery on quilt) That's when I got chicken pox. (Looks at another section) And you were...off banging Darnell. Joy: Well, I was trying to be accurate. Earl: Thanks. Joy: You hate it. I knew you'd hate it. Earl: Joy, I don't hate it. I said it was nice. Joy: No, I see how it is. I mean you like me feeling guilty. No matter how many of the kids winter coats I cut up for you we'll never be even. 'Cause you like to hold this over my head, don't you? Well bravo, you son of a bitch, bravo. (Clapping) Randy: Do I have time for a question right now? Joy: No, you wait your damn turn you stupid yeti. (To Earl) And by the way, would you tell your stupid brother to stop calling me every 20 minutes asking me what time it is. Dumb ass already lost his job. Randy: Well, that's 'cause no one will show me how to set this thing. Edit

    • Frogger Joy says to to Randy as she is trying to make him move faster when they cross a busy street: "I feel like I'm playing Frogger". Frogger is an old arcade game where the object of the game was to move a frog across the street safely by dogging traffic and other obstacles. Edit
    • Joy: And you don't want to be albacore around your brother's neck, do you? Joy is trying to make a reference to the famous albatross on the neck in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, but she instead refers to a type of tuna. Edit
    • The poster of Dolly Parton used by Ralph to escape is reminiscent of the ones used by Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption. Edit
