Recurring Role |
The theme of this episode is a variation on a similar idea found in Season 8's 'Charley's Tea.' In that earlier episode, Katie was the newcomer who had trouble fitting into the household and thought Uncle Charley didn't like her.
In playing the role of Dodie, former actress Dawn Lyn recalled that "William Demarest was not nearly as blustery as his 'Uncle Charley' character. He was always nice and fun and used to do a great turkey impression for me". She also says that "I love all three of the 'Sons' like real brothers. Don (Robbie) is a sensitive sweetheart; I had a crush on him. Stan (Chip) is the fun jokester -- after chewing a piece of gum, he would play with it and turn it into a little square, then leave them all over the set. Barry (Ernie) is quieter than his brother Stan, more bookish. He is also a very sweet person. Tina (Katie) is the warm and loving big sister I never had."
Ricky Allen makes his last appearance as a guest star on the series. Co-star Stanley Livingston confirmed for me in February 2010 that after this episode he and Ricky lost contact and that he hasn't seen him for over 40 years.
