      • Born in 1919, character actress Doris Singleton was interviewed for the Academy of American Television in 2008 about her lengthy career and recalled some memories of the unusual filming schedule employed on 'My Three Sons': "In episodic television especially, you film over the course of several days. Not that you did every show in sequence, but because of my guest spot as the mother of Ronne Troup, which covered several episodes in total, I was informed that my clothes would be tied up for six weeks. Now, I brought in the clothes I was going to wear on the show, which were my own. They were approved by the Producers and I was then told I would have to leave them for six weeks! Why six weeks I queried? Then they told me that Fred MacMurray doesn't come in until all the other scenes are shot – and then he does the scenes with the people that he is involved with so you'll have to leave your clothes because we'd never know if we needed to do retakes on something. So as I said, all of my clothes were tied up for six weeks on that show and I thought that was just terrible!" Singleton did not get to meet MacMurray although she appears to be in some scenes with him. "I never actually met him, I certainly don't remember it. I worked with Ronne, Stanley and Don and the wonderful Beverly Garland" she said. She also recalled that in the storyline she agreed that Polly was too young to get married, and that Steve was the holdout to allow permission. "But it was nice working on the show despite what happened".  Miss Singleton's recollection is a little faulty, however,  as she certainly does appear on screen with MacMurray within the same scenes.
