My Week in the Real World

Show Summary

My Week in the Real World is a reality series that premiered in February 2004 on BBC Two in the United Kingdom. The series runs for one season and the episodes are one hour in length. The premise of the show is to see how politicians fare when they live like ordinary people. The series opener features Michael Portillo, who is a member of the British parliament at the time of his appearance. Portillo must spend a week living in a Merseyside terrace home as a single parent of four children. He performs the usual duties of parenting, including housework and taking care of the children. Portillo must also work two jobs and manage the household on less than ¬£80 per week. Additional episodes feature Alan Duncan, Peter Kilfoyle and Clare Short. All of these people are active politicians when they appear on My Week in the Real World. This series is hosted by Lynda Bellingham, a well-known broadcaster on British television.
