  • A version of the famous story with a novel twist - the same actor plays both Frankenstein and his Creature.

As I recall, this was not originally televised as part of the "Mystery And Imagination" series, but as a single play - there was no introduction by the David Buck character, who was unseen. Maybe Buck taped an introduction afterwards for the benefit of American TV viewers? Anyway, the idea of making both Frankenstein and the Creature aspects of the same personality - so that Frankenstein cannot bring himself to destroy the Creature, because that would mean destroying himself - worked really well, and Ian Holm was dynamite in both roles. This version worked a lot better than the all-star TV movie ("Frankenstein: The True Story") made by American TV in Britain about five years later.moreless
