Movie Plot: Daddy-O Teenagers risk their lives drag-racing.
Also riffed was the short: "Alphabet Antics".

Intro: Joel, Crow and Servo are ad men swapping jokes and ogling Gypsy around the water cooler.
Segment One: For the invention exchange, the Mads offer an alien teething nook (it looks like a face-hugger) for Frank's Miracle-Gro baby. Joel has an air freshener mobile for a baby's crib.
Segment Two: Inspired by the movie's title character, Joel and the Bots sing the "Hike Your Pants Up" song.
Segment Three: The crew re-creates the drag-race scene from the movie.
Segment Four: Joel demonstrates the value of a spit-take.
Segment Five: Re-enacting a scene from the movie, Joel practices slapping pieces of fruit out of the bots' hands.

Stinger: Bruce, the dumb gym guy, can't help you. It's gym policy.

  • Hike, hike, hike - hike your pants up!

Dig, man! "Daddy-O" is one of the all-time best episodes of MST3K. It's a half-baked drag racing, rock singing, crime solving caper with a wooden leading man, an obese effete villain and some great musical numbers. This was made to be riffed.

The plot (HA!) involves the titular Daddy-O (he of the nipple-high pants!) investigating a friend's death and attempting to clear his own name of murder. There's drug smuggling and singing and a shootout in a wine cellar before it's all finally over.

Almost all of the host segments this week directly relate to the movie, with most as re-creations or discussions of previous scenes.

You could not ask for a better movie to be offered to Joel and the Bots. The mix of genres, the awkward editing and the belly flop performance of Dick Contino as Daddy-O make the movie very exciting in a really square 1950s kind of way.moreless
  • Nick Contino plays the hard luck would-be singer, but actually a truck driver, who gets caught up in a goofy smuggling operation after falling for a plastic blonde. Bad guy heavy and his sidekick try to take advantage of Nick.... what a plot, right?moreless

This is a classic episode with awesome riffs and great sketches. Joel and the bots truly shred this silly, ridiculous movie.

What makes it so much fun are the laughable bad guys and the leading man.

The leading man is high-waisted, good hearted guy who would like to be a lounge singer and looks to be 10 years too old to be hanging with his little gang. The bad guys - a porky little greasy guy and his near-sighted, half blind gym-coach sidekick. The sidekick/henchman is really more of a locker room attendant than a gym coach.... both are the sources for many a great riff.

Joel and the bots put on some great sketches in this one. My favorites: the 'Rock candy baby' number where Joel goes off on the high pants level of our movie lead - which are ridiculous; also, the sketch where Joel knocks various pieces of fruit across the room in an attempt to re-enact a goofy scene in the movie where Contino attempts to emote a feeling about his pal Sonny... This one is a great Joel episode.moreless
  • Forty-year-old drag racers without licenses and buttery bad guys...oh yeah!

The host segments: Funny, I especially liked the drag race between Crow and Servo. The "interrupted" end credits were *classic* - "A piece of water," Frank??

The movie itself: I shamefully admit I enjoyed the movie, probably far too much. The characters were weird but they didn't annoy me somehow, and I quite enjoyed the villain. And - shoot me - I liked the songs!

The riffed movie: Butter. Butter. And more butter. Well, you can't go wrong when making butter comments when there's a fat man on the screen, can you? No, no...there were some really good lines in there, there were.

    I highly recommend this one.moreless
