Joel: Wait a minute, this is an episode of Insight.
Crow: (as Jimmy) Can I rob you?
Joel: Do you have any bullets?

Joel: (as the sentence is handed out) Thank God I'm white!
Kitty: Please hear my plea...

Al: That's right.

Mother: Fix mother a drink, James. I'm exhausted.
Tom: From drinking so much.
Crow: (as Dad comes in) Suddenly the Thin Man enters.
Tom: It's a booze progressive dinner here.
Crow: (as if reading the note) Buy yourself another mother.
Jimmy: I accuse my parents.
Crow: We have a title!

Narrator: Here in Southern Texas, we have an additional problem.
Crow: Texans.
Joel, Crow and Tom (at different times): It's my birthday tomorrow.
Tom: It's the essay contest kid!
Joel: Cafe. I've heard of that place!
Crow: (about Jimmy's goodbye note): I'll put it here next to Mom's suicide note.

It's A Wonderful Life:
When Jimmy is at the bank, Tom says that he is going to give Mr. Potter his newspaper. This refers to the scene in It's A Wonderful Life where George's Uncle Billy inadvertently gives Potter the reciepts from the Bailey Brothers Building & Loan.
Charley Varrick:
Mentioned by Joel in the short, Charley Varrick was a movie released in 1973 which starred Walter Matthau as a crop duster and sometime bank robber who stumbles into a Mob operation after robbing a bank.
The Thin Man:
Mentioned by Crow as a lookalike for Jimmy's dad, The Thin Man was a mystery novel by Dashiell Hammett which was the basis for a series of movies.
John Bradshaw:
Mentioned by Crow in the opening movie credits, John Bradshaw is an American author and lecturer credited with popularizing such ideas as the dysfunctional family.
Alice's Restaurant:
Al said "You can have it back any time you want." and the crew followed with "At Alice's Restaurant!" The actual lyric from the Arlo Guthrie song "Alice's Restaurant" is "You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant".
