The premise for this episode is a spoof of Star Trek's famous "Mirror, Mirror" alternate universe episode. Elements directly lifted from it include the rapid cuts between the original and alternate SOLs, Mike's goatee, the alternate Deep 13 uniforms, agonizers, the agony booth, and the fact that every character acts almost completely different in the alternate reality.
