When the Lost Continent hit the cinema, it attempted to tell audiences that somewhere dinosaurs still exist! A rocket ship's blast off -which was really shameless stock footage from Rocketship X-M- sends it off course and missing in action. A team of rescue explorers goes searching for the rocket on a mysterious island. But throughout most of the film, they just go rock climbing.

Honestly I wasn't looking forward to this episode. Heck I wasn't looking forward to seeing the movie in the first place. Rock climbing is all you need to know. But, I felt as if I had to see it. The movie had too much rock climbing in it. After seeing those pesky explorers rock climb allot, I got tired of it and felt I was turned to stone. Thank goodness for Joel & the 'Bots or I wouldn't have survived this junk. Now the riffing for the beginning of the flick was funny, especially the plan crash part! But, the rock climbing parts took all of their wills to get through them, they were even complaining about them, so I just got giggles 'n' gins. At least there're some stabs at the dinos. Host segments were good and they were a nice break from this dry movie. My favorite bit is with the mads and Frank's bad inventions. Bottom line, this episode is above average, but not one I'll be revisiting any time soon.

  • Rock climbing, Joel. Rock climbing.

Cesar Romero, Hugh Beaumont and Sid Melton headline this catastrophe, "Lost Continent." When the army loses an experimental rocket, they send a team of pilots and scientists to recover it. What they find involves dinosaurs, a land that time forgot, and rock climbing. Lots and lots and lots of rock climbing.

That's the bulk of this movie...Romero and Co. trudging up several mountains. With each additional minute of rock climbing "action" it becomes more and more evident that nothing is going to happen in this movie. The characters stop long enough to toss off some inane one-liners, before they get back to the rock climbing. It made such a memorable impression on the writers that "rock climbing" became a riff that would pop up from time to time in subsequent episodes.

It's early MST3K (Season 2), so the silhouettes are a little rougher around the edges, but the riffs are still fantastic.moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    ADD TRIVIA
    • At the beginning of the episode, Joel says that the movie one week before "Wild Rebels" was "Rocket Attack USA." In reality, the shows aired three weeks apart. At the time, the writers would not have known The Comedy Channel's scheduling, but since "Ring of Terror" was produced to air in between "Rocket Attack USA" and "Wild Rebels," this is clearly a mistake or purposeful omission by the writers.
