In this installment of Sandy Frank Theater; we get to enjoy Time of the Apes, a rip off of Planet of the Apes straight from Japan. The plot is ridiculous, the acting is terrible; nothing too new to any other MST3K episode. From little Johnny's classic use of the "I don't care" line comes many riffs from Joel and the bots. The majority of the movie follows our group back and forth from place to place that's almost impossible to keep track of. Being pursued by an army of Apes dressed in horrible costumes that do not articulate mouth movement, we eventually learn a lesson of forgiveness and the ability to live along together. Great riffing in this episode, along with some great host segments.moreless

    • This episode is on Disc One ofthe Mystery Science Theater 3000 XXII DVD set. Extras include an introduction by August Ragone, author of Eiji Tsuburaya: Master Of Monsters and the MST Hour wraps for the episode.

    • This movie was originally done in the KTMA Minneapolis season as experiment #K17.

    • This movie, like all of the other Japanese-produced movies featured in season 3, (the Gamera movies, the Fugitive Alien movies, Mighty Jack, and this one) was distributed in the US by Sandy Frank. Frank was distinctly annoyed by the constant barbs at his expense, especially the song in this episode. As a result, when it came time for BBI to renew the movie rights, Frank refused, vowing that those episodes would never be shown on television again. He made good on his threat; all of the Sandy Frank movies disappeared from TV, and they have never been available on TV or DVD.
