A Science Channel Special:
Four finalists head to San Francisco to conduct experiments with the cast of "MythBusters."
  • Young scientists....?

I really enjoy watching this series and find most of the episodes and challenges quite entertaining. I was disappointed in this special episode, as I felt that the producers gave the kids clean-up jobs instead of having them really participate to make "something happen". I realize that what we see is a final, editing version, but they didn't look like they were having too much fun, either..too bad. It would great to have the MB guys actually work on a 'myth' that the kids bring to the show something that they may have attempted to 'bust' themselves! Good for them, however, for getting outside participants involved...!moreless
  • Somewhat disappointing. The four young geniuses were supposed to be the stars of the show. But they were reduced to being supporting characters.

At the beginning of the show we are shown how these four kids are chosen to be the best and brightest of America. So I assumed that they would be allowed to choose a myth, think of a way of testing it, build the rig to test it and do the testing themselves. With support of the Mythbuster team to help them out in the though spots. But I was completely wrong. Not only did they not get to decide on how to test the myths they also didn't get to design and build the rigs. Instead they were given small jobs as if to keep them busy. Sometimes they got to do things which had little or nothing to do with these myths.
For instance: why did Tory design the ice sculpture to be used in the test and not one of the kids? Okay, so Tory does this for a living and his sculpture looked better than anything these kids could have made. But wasn't it supposed to be their show? To me it looked like they didn't give these kids the chance they deserved. So maybe these kids would have chosen the wrong way of testing these myths. And it would not have been scientific enough and the team would have had to redo them. But isn't that the whole point of the show? I can only hope that next time they'll do things differently.moreless
