  • results of test for speeding car beating speed camera flawed as car did not go fast enough. Speed needs to be at least 170 mph as in british car programme TOP GEARmoreless

    Just seen the spped camera episode in england and have reservations about the result of the speeding car. The english motoring programme TOP GEAR investigated the same myths some time ago with identical results for plate blockers but when the tried the speeding car approach things were different. Although they had the same results at the speeds used in this programme they found that when the car reached speeds higher than 170 to 180 mph the camera failed to take the photo. I would love to see this myth re vissited for the bennifit of our Americn friends using a suitably long runway for a car to reach the speed needed. Love the show and will remain a devoted fan hope to see this myth in the next re vissited episode.moreless

  • I'm not exactly sure about this episode, it was OK but I did have a few problems with it, I always manage to find something wrong!

    Mythbusters is getting a little boring, i think, I'm kind of getting over it, it's always the same, but i will concentrate on this episode for now..

    Firstly, why couldnt they get a REAL speed camera? They had some guy with a laptop, a high-res digital camera and a bunch of other gadgets that you wouldnt see on the side of the road. Would it have been so hard for them to get a speed camera they actually use in the police force? Also, it would have been cool to see them analyse how the camera works and think of theoretical ways to beat it. They missed a whole bunch of myths about speed cameras too..

    As for the "high speed" tests, they clearly arent speed freaks like myself.. Their tests, from memory, were all sub 150mph which, to my mind, is not excessively fast. The should have pushed past 200mph in my opinion, thats what they did in Top Gear. The car they were using wasnt really a fast car. It's a Lambo, a Lambo is a poser's car, not well renound for it's high speed or good handling. An Ultima GTR or Koenigsegg CCX would have been the ideal choice..

    Overall it was ok but i felt like they called in a biased party to mediate. The guy who INVENTED the speed camera is hardly going to be impartial about how well it performes, is he? As a scientist (well, engineer), i had a few problems with their scientific method. Also, they neglected to mention any of the laws associated with these cameras..moreless

    I liked this episode because it revolved all around speed cameras. One of the myths were, "can a speed camera see through hair spray?" I thought it that it was confirmed but i guessed wrong. I also never knew that a speed camera can take a picture of a passing bird at 40 MPH. it was amazing to see that happen. But the myth "speed cameras can't take a picture of a passing car". That one was not so well in my opinion. The reason they made a speed camera was to see objects that were going fast. I knew that one was gonna be busted. On a good note, there was one myth I was hoping to see confirmed. "Defibrillators can cause medical nitroglycerin chest patches to explode." I wanted to see that Confirmed but it was Busted. I loved this episode, it was very adventurous.moreless
