Can Adam and Jamie escape a sinking car, underwater?

Can you fold paper more than 7 times?
  • Anoher good episode, but I didn't like the way the paper myth was handled.

The underwater car myth was excellently done. I had wanted them to this myth for a long time. As for the paper folding myth, I think they didn't approach it very well. The myth is that you can't fold a piece of paper more than 7 times. They called it busted after folding a huge piece of paper, the size wasn't given I believe, and managed to fold it 11 times with the help of a steamroller. My problem with it is that size is the entire basis of this myth. It is impossible to fold a normal 8 1/2 X 11 paper in half more than 7 times. Grant of course has to look like he knows all and folds it lengthwise and calls it busted. The point is that the number of folds depends on the paper. I just tried to fold a sticky note and only got 5 until it couldn't do anymore. I think that they need to say that size did matter in this experiment.moreless
  • take that Mr. Wizard...

So I remember Mr. Wizard challenging his kids/students to the you can't fold a piece of paper more than 7 timesI like that the mythbusters took this on with the giant paper. I wondered how the thickness of the double sided tape adding to the whole thing. But they still busted the myth. How cool!! So I also thought the breaking out of the sinking car was cool. I mean you hear all the time that when the pressure was the same you could get out. But no one ever tells you that you might not be able to hold your breath that long, especially if you are panicking and breathing fast. You might not be able to calm your self enough. Without the element of panic and all the strength that he has, so they are assuming that he is not hurt from the crash, he was able to get out a few times before the car was completely submerged.moreless
  • Good and bad

    "Good"
The myth of the under water car escape was informative. The myth of folding pager 7 times felt like a filler. The info from the under water car escape will help save lives. I could not believe a power window would word under water. The show starting to be more interactive. The myth of folding pager was very boring. Folding a piece of paper the size of a foot ball field was just to waste more time on this myth. The only good part of the myth is you can try this out for your self with just a normal size piece of paper.moreless
  • Underwater Car was a very informative and entertaining episode. Thanks and as always, Mythbusters is an excellent, well made show. Keep up the good work. Note: The only reason we didn't rate it a 10, was the seatbelt issue (see Review).moreless

Great show as always. However, you forgot to put on the seatbelt as soon as you got into the car, and before going under water. Unfortunately, in a real accident (whether by auto, airplane, etc.), people tend to panic and forget to remove the seatbelt -- in many cases, resulting in a very bad outcome. You may want to remind viewers to put on their seatbelts, but, in case you end up in water, remeber to udo the seatbelt -- otherwise, you'll remain in the car! Thanks for the excellent show -- important topic.moreless
  • Here is an episode that only entertain a viewer but also informs the viewer of a very real and present danger in our everyday life, the of chance that the car that one is driving might end up in a body of water.moreless

Here is an episode that only entertain a viewer but also informs the viewer of a very real and present danger in our everyday life, the of chance that the car that one is driving might end up in a body of water. How a person can get out of the danger with one life with various ways that a person can do it, it same manner that a "Dateline" episode did a couple of years back. This episode also shows that one can't use regular items that a driver might have around them at the inauspicious moment that they may find themselves at. But while a person may not be able to reminder all of the information that gain in this episode, the one thing that a viewer of this segment should take back with them is the most important thing to do to survive this, if you are unlucky enough to find yourself in this, is to stay calm, it doing so one won't used up one oxygen supply as fast as one would if one would struggle to break free. But to stay calm is hard to do because there is a lot of unknowns that are in play and a good majority of people aren't drive masters, like Jamie was, or have been through this a couple of times in a control area like Adam was.

Next on deck is the myth that one can't fold a paper more then seven times, and just like the narrator said in the episode this is something that I heard in school, but for me I heard it in my Junior High School years, not in Grade School years. I while the secondly myth and one could clearly tell that it was one, because there wasn't a lot of build time put into this one and some time the builds have some of the funniest moments in the show. But despite the lack of build time in this episode didn't side track team, because they seem to have a fun time with the myth and especially Tori's first attempt in folding a regular piece of paper by using hammers and a clap to fold the piece of paper.

On a side not, it seem that Mythbusters are starting to act like Dirty Jobs at the end of each episode encouraging the viewers to post things on the Discovery's Web Site and with the third time, I am starting to get annoyed by this regular segment. The reason why it works well on Dirty Jobs is the fact that in the very first episode of the series, Mike ask you to help him find the different type of Dirty Jobs and plus Mike delivery of the segment would slightly different from episode to episode, making it feel fresh despite the fact that it a recurring segment for that show. If the producers of this show are reading this review, can you please stop with this segment, if you don't, can you please mixed up a little so it dose not feel like its old, the way that Dirty Jobs dose it.moreless
