Aired Thursday 7:30 PM Jan 27, 2007 on TV Tokyo

  • Trivia

    • When Sarutobi places exploding tags on the 1st and 2nd Hokages, watch carefully. You can see that it showed in the first panel that the tag was on the 2nd's thigh. When the tag explodes, the tag is show on his left arm.

  • Quotes

    • Sakura: What was that?
Pakkun: Tripwire traps. They're certainly not making Sasuke's job easy for him.

    • Third Hokage: You're no longer human, you're a demon!

    • Orochimaru: (Taunting) What is it, sensei? You look a little out of breath. Long day? You poor thing, all you really want is to take a long quiet nap, isn't it?

    • ANBU Platoon Leader: Unbelievable! I never dreamed I would live to see this, Hokage-level combat!

    • Orochimaru: So a pesky newcomer has arrived, that old monkey, Enma.

    • ANBU Ninja: What the devil kind of jutsu is that?
ANBU Platoon Leader: A forbidden one. It's a summoning jutsu called Reanimation. Normally a summoning jutsu requires the blood of the one casting it; but I've heard that this jutsu, which summons the dead to the world of the living, demands the sacrifice of a living body to be used as a vessel for the dead soul.

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • Orochimaru's weapon, called the "Grass Long Sword" in the dub, is in fact the Kusagani "grass-cutter" a magic sword that was supposedly found, by the God Susannoo, in the tail of the original Orochi (an eight-headed serpent). This weapon was one of the three Japanese Imperial Treasures and according to some is supposedly now kept in a Shinto Shrine in Japan (though this one is often considered to be a fake). Others believe that the sword was lost during the battle of Danneoura (the end of the Gempei war) when the young emperor committed suicide by jumping into the sea.

    • In Chinese legend, Sun Wukong was the King of the Monkeys who knew transformation skills. He wore tiger skin clothes and carried an indestructible Golden Rod. This is what Enma is most likely based off of.
