  • Quotes

    • Sasuke: What's this all about?
Kakashi: Sorry, but I knew you wouldn't wanna sit still for a lecture, so I figured I had to pin you down.

    • Sakon: (about Sasuke's jealousy) I like that look in his eyes.

    • Sasuke: Before we go to the next round, you might want to think about it. I'm in a really bad mood!

    • Sakura: What is it, Naruto?
Naruto: Listen, Sakura, this is between us. Stay out of it.

    • Kakashi: It's hard for Sasuke to watch Naruto's strength and skills develop at such an astonishing rate. He's come along so fast, Sasuke must feel like he's standing still. Naruto has something powerful driving him on, but so does Sasuke.
Jiraiya: You mean revenge? His hatred of Itachi may be driving him on too fast.
Kakashi: Sasuke can't acknowledge Naruto's abilities. He's afraid if he does acknowledge them, he somehow diminishes his own.

    • Kakashi: To Naruto, Sasuke is a rival and a comrade at the same time. In fact, it's the competition between them that keeps him going. That's why he won't stand for it when Sasuke tries to belittle him. He's been dogging Sasuke's steps every inch of the way since their first days at the academy. As far as Naruto is concerned, what you and I think doesn't matter. There's only one person who's approval he cares about, Sasuke.

    • Jiraiya: Obviously there's bad blood between them, but where in the world does it come from?
Kakashi: It's nothing we haven't seen before.
      Jiraiya: Meaning what?
Kakashi: Oh come on, when you think about it, their relationship isn't much different than the one you had with Orochimaru.

    • Kakashi: I'm assuming it was you who taught him that technique. You don't think he's a little young to be handling that jutsu? After all, he could have killed Sasuke. I know you want to protect him from the Akatsuki, but still, to entrust him with a jutsu like that.
Jiraiya: Aren't you a fine one to talk? Teaching the Chidori to someone like Sasuke. I knew he was a hothead, but I never imagined that he'd be willing to use a jutsu that powerful against a comrade from his own village.

    • Kakashi: (Thinking) That jutsu... No doubt about it, it was the Rasengan.

    • Kakashi: What do you two think you're doing up here? That was a little intense for a sparring match wasn't it? What's wrong with you two?

    • (Kakashi flings Naruto and Sasuke at the water towers)
      Naruto: Kakashi-sensei?
Kakashi: Naruto, is that what I think it was?

    • Sasuke: How did he...? What jutsu is that?!

    • Sasuke: (Thinking) Naruto, how far have you...?

    • Kidomaru: What a peaceful village. Can't say much for the security though.

    • Kakashi: (About Naruto) What were you thinking? Were you really going to kill him, Sasuke?

    • Sakon: Heh, this village really ought to be taught a lesson. We could just stroll right in there and wipe them all out.

    • Kakashi: To Naruto, Sasuke is his friend, but at the same time, his rival as well. And, well, he's someone who wants to be seen as an equal. He probably wasn't able to deal with Sasuke's provocation. He tried to catch up with Sasuke in his academy years, and that continued after graduation. The current Naruto doesn't want recognition from me or you, but from Sasuke. Because of that, Sasuke has noticed Naruto's growth in such a short period of time, creating a feeling of inferiority, almost as if he himself hasn't grown at all. Naruto has become strong.

      ~Japanese version

    • Kakashi: Sasuke, were you planning to kill Naruto? Why must you insist upon being superior? Chidori is not a move to be used on someone from the same village. Why did you act so childish? (Thinking) Could it be from seeing Itachi again?

      ~Japanese version

    • Kakashi: Sasuke... Forget about revenge.
      Sasuke: What?
Kakashi: Well, I've seen a lot of people like you, and the fate of those who seek revenge is grim. It's tragic. You will end up suffering and hurting yourself even more. Even if you do succeed in getting revenge, the only thing that remains is emptiness.

      ~Japanese version

    • Sasuke: Naruto... How much stronger are you getting...?

      ~Japanese version

    • Jiraiya: Rivalry is not something to admire.

      ~Japanese version

    • Sasuke: What the hell do you know about how I feel? How would you like it if I killed someone important to you? Maybe then you'd understand how I feel!
Kakashi: Hmmm, go right ahead. I don't have anyone important to me anymore. You see, they're already dead. So I guess I can understand how you feel. Well, let's just say we're a really unlucky pair. But at least now we can say we've found important people of our own.

      ~Japanese version

    • Sakura: I have something to tell you... Call it a date if you want...

      ~Japanese version

    • Kakashi: Because you have important people in your life, you were given the power of the Chidori. Not for revenge.

      ~Japanese version
