  • I don't remember this episode being this good.

When I watched this episode over two years ago I was actually pretty bored. Now I guess that I've learned of the truth (after the timejump) it really forced me to pay attention to the drama occurring in this episode. In fact this episode executed like a really good drama should, the character development and the acting was just surprisingly top notched. The relationship between Itachi and Sasuke was indeed really close and Sasuke's mission to get approval from his dad was really well presented. Despite being a genius himself Sasuke still couldn't get out of his brother's shadow. It's just really surprising that Naruto was capable of pulling off an episode like this, caught me by surprise like the whole Going Merry incident with Usopp and the Straw Hats in One Piece; excellent drama you never saw coming.moreless
  • watcha itachi

Yay Itachi returns to the series, but in flashback form. What happens in this episode is Naruto rises from the flames unharmed, and Sasuke begins to remember his childhood and his reasons for becoming obsessed with power. Sasuke's childhood was spent living in his brother, Itachi's, shadow. Being the prodigy of the clan, Itachi received all the attention from their father, leaving Sasuke to live his life trying to earn his father's recognition. Itachi, aware of Sasuke's efforts, did what he could to redirect some of their father's attention to Sasuke, but saw little success. In time, the members of the Uchiha clan began to suspect Itachi of being a murderer, and Itachi started openly attacking and disrespecting the clan. It was awesome only cause it had Itachi in it, but Tobi is still better than him. Strike of Thunder!!!moreless
  • Finally! The uchiha's past!

This episode was among one of my favorites. It reveals Sasuke and Itachi's past a little more. It really showed us some very important charater background. We find out that Itachi was actually nice and kind to his little brother but didn't seem to have enough time to be with him. Itachi was favored by his father while Sasuke was ignored, or at least Sasuke thought that. Itachi was accepted into the ANBU. He then starts saying wierd things. Itachi then later killed the clan and left Sasuke alive. Sasuke, bent on revenge, vowed to kill his brother for killing the clan. It was a well made background. I wouldn' be able to think about something like that!moreless
  • Sasuke's flashbacks to his past reveal the trouble brewing at home.

As Sasuke and Naruto continue their fight, Sasuke has flashbacks to the past when he was younger and his brother Itachi had just joined the Anbu Black Ops. It seems that there is trouble brewing at home. Sasuke and Itachi's father has a mission that he demands that Itachi perform on the same day that Sasuke has his ceramony at the school for Genins. Itachi refuses to do the mission because it is the duty of the family to be at Sasuke's ceramony. Their father gives in and agrees. Sasuke tries his best at school and makes the highest marks in his class, but his father only says that he expects that he will do as well as Itachi. Sasuke is disappointed that Itachi is the only one that his dad says "that's my boy!" to.moreless
  • Wow, i bet you didn't expect that

I reallllllyyyy liked this episode, it gave us a look at what their childhood was like and you can tell why itachi would want to kill some of the people in his clan(so full of themselves, seriously). sasuke did have a pretty lousy child hood but i was suprised itachi was that nice to sasuke though, i mean no real older brother would ever be that nice. i don't know why but for me episodes that have flash backs to tell us more about their lives are more interesting than fight scenes that go on for like five episodes. Any what it is definately one of my all time favorite episodes!!!!moreless

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (18)

    • Sasuke: I hope that woke you up, now you know I'm not messing around. We had a bit of interruption that day, but that won't happen this time. Let me show you the true power of the Sharingan!

    • Itachi: Being the best isn't all it's cracked up to be. When you have power, you become arrogant and isolated from the world, no matter how coveted and sought after you are in the beginning.

    • Young Shikamaru: Oh man, I thought recess was never gonna get here. These classes are such a drag.
Young Choji: Shikamaru, you want some?
Young Shikamaru: Seriously, not every single break has to be a snack break. You know what I mean?

    • Academy Instructor: Boy, it seems like yesterday you were here for Itachi, and you're his spitting image.
Fugaku: Thank you for your help with both of my boys.
Academy Instructor: Oh, not at all. It's been a pleasure. That boy of yours is a true prodigy. There hasn't been another one like him in the history of the academy.
Fugaku: Please, you're being too kind.
Academy Instructor: Nonsense. We expect big things from you as well Sasuke.
Fugaku: Become a fine shinobi, just like your older brother.
      Young Sasuke: Yes, father.

    • Young Sasuke: I was wondering, how come the crest of the Uchiha clan is part of the Leaf police force insignia?
Itachi: Well whadda ya know? You finally noticed.
      Young Sasuke: Course I did.
Itachi: Right... Let me see if I can explain it for you... It was the Uchiha clan's earliest ancestors who established the police here in the village, so when they created the symbol for the organization, they used the family crest. Since a long time ago, the Uchiha have always insured the peace here. The crest is a testament to the pride and our way of life centuries old. Over the years, the Uchiha clan has grown smaller, but even now nearly most all of us are a part of the force and work to uphold the peace in this village. Which is good, because only the most exceptional Shinobi can weed out the criminals hiding among their brethren.

    • Itachi: The people of this clan are all the same. You focus on the trivial and lose sight on what is most important. Change is impossible in this fog of ignorance. How can we evolve when regulation is all we know?

    • Itachi: Sasuke, know that I will always be there for you, even if it's just as an obstacle for you to overcome.

    • Itachi: Why don't you just come out and say it? (Itachi activates his Sharingan) You think that I had a hand in all of this!

    • Sasuke: But I will tell you this much, my days of playing ninja with you kids of the Leaf Village are done.

    • Itachi: I've lost all hope for this pathetic clan. You forget what is most important to you because you're not letting go of a lesser thing; the clan. There is no room for change if rules and regulations, expectations, and wishes, prevent it from happening.

      ~Japanese version

    • Itachi: You focus on your group, and you focus on your clan, and you focus on your name. These kinds of things should be done away with, as it restrains us and our capabilities. Also, things we have not seen yet and things we do not know yet...It is foolish to fear them.

      ~Japanese version

    • Itachi: It's just as I said before. You shouldn't judge others by their appearances and your preconceptions. You all thought I would be patient. The clan... The clan... All of you, without measuring your own capacity...had no idea of mine. And now you lie here, defeated.
Young Sasuke: (Thinking) This side of my something I've never seen before.

      ~Japanese version

    • Itachi: It's just that we're unique siblings.

      ~Japanese version

    • Young Sasuke: Father always talks about you.
Itachi: Am I that bad? Whatever, it's all right. Shinobi are hated by others, so it's no surprise.
Young Sasuke: That way... (Thinking) It's just as he said. In truth, I...About my brother...

      ~Japanese version

    • Itachi: (To Sasuke) I'm the barrier you must overcome, so you and I will continue to exist together. Even if you hate me. That's what being a big brother is.

      ~Japanese version

    • Itachi: Attach to clan? Attach to organization? Why attach and limit your container?

      ~Japanese version

    • Sasuke: Last time there was an interference, that won't happen this time.

      ~Japanese version

    • Itachi: That's what happens when you get that skilled. You become so obsessed with power that you become confined and arrogant, when you were really only trying to reach your dreams.

      ~Japanese version

-Next, the first scene of this episode never happened yet.
-Third, Naruto originally stays in the water until Sasuke finishes the entire story, there are no breaks between it.
