With Sasuke still absent, and everyone anxiously anticipating his match against Gaara, the tournament is forced to move on to the next round. Meanwhile, Neji learns the shocking truth about his father.

    "Fair"
Crappy character development on Neji's already crappy past and a lot of talking and delaying of the matches. Sure everything is to develop the plot but it sure as hell does it in a pretty boring manner. I've never really liked Neji's past in the first place and in a way this is a blessing in disguise that it won't be touched upon as it provides a conclusion, way too melodramatic. Now that was the first half of the episode, the second half wasn't much better. Just constant jabbering about whether or not Sasuke should be eliminated for his absence. At least the next episode is going to finally provide a worthy fight, which Naruto vs. Neji failed to do.moreless

Naruto has just defeated Neji in ther match and is hamming it up like he usually does. Neji is taken to the care center where Hiashi comes to visit him. Neji doesn't want him there, but Hiashi insists on telling Neji about his father. Hiashi gives Neji a scroll. Neji recognizes the handwriting as his father's handwriting. He opens the scroll and starts to read. It seems that his father chose to sacrifice his life to save his family and village from war. Neji now realizes that it was not the head household that ordered his father's death, he chose death to protect the ones he loved...moreless
  • The Truth Behind It All.

    9.3
    "Superb"
This was a great episode because I learned more about how things really happened when Neji's father died. He died to protect his brother, not a member of the Hyuga Head family member. Neji finally felt much better to see that it was not the Head family's fault that his father had died. I felt much better to see that point too. Since Sasuke was not there to battle Garra the battle was rescheduled. I was glad because I knew that Sasuke would come. Kankuro's and Shino's battle was next but Kankuro forfeited so Shikamaru's and Temari's battle was about to begin. Overall this episode went very well because I learned much more about the Hyuga family and Neji's father and uncle.moreless

    • During Neji's flashback in the Enlish dub version, Naruto says that he won't give up because Neji called him a loser. But in the last episode, Naruto really said that it was because people called him a failure.

    • When Neji is thinking about how fate goes and walks to the end of his bed the pillow at the end is missing. But when they show Neji from behind the pillow is back on the bed.

    • When Haishi is bowing down to Neji in apology, the door he walked in is directly behind him. But when Neji accepts his apology the door is off to the right a bit.

    ADD QUOTES
    • Shikamaru: Great! If it's going to be like this, maybe I'll withdraw too. Naruto: All right! Go on, Shikamaru, you can do it! (Naruto knocks Shikamaru over the guardrail and into the arena) Shikamaru: (Sarcastically) Yeah, thanks a lot, Naruto.

    • Shikamaru: Aww, come on, what are you doing moving these matches up like this? Why does it have to be my stupid match that gets pushed up? Oh man, this is such a drag!

    • Hizashi: (Written on scroll being read by Neji) Forge your own destiny, Neji. Your fate is something you create with your own hands.

    • Hizashi: I ask you, please give Neji a message for me. Tell him that I wasn't killed to protect the head family, but to protect my sibling's family and village; and, by my own free will, I chose death and my freedom.

    • Neji: (Silently reflecting) Now Father, I have only one goal: To become stronger so I won't lose to anyone again. That's what I feel my goal is now. Father, I wish you could see these birds flying. They're finding their freedom too.

    • Neji: (Thinking) Father, I can't be sure if a person's destiny is like a cloud. Floating on a fixed current that it can't escape, or if people are able to ride on whatever breeze they choose. I don't know. I don't completely understand it yet. And maybe the destination is the same, no matter what you choose. Just when you choose one course, along comes someone who's picked a different path. (Cut to Naruto after the battle) One that's devoted to living life to its fullest. There's real strength to be found in that love of life. I finally understand that because of this latest battle.

    • Shikamaru: Naruto defeated Neji?! Aw man, I can't believe it. And I thought Naruto was the same as me. One of the dorky, uncool guys. Shino: Dorky and uncool? Shikamaru: Now everyone's saying he's going to make something big of himself. Just great, I doubt I can beat him now. This is really bad. I've never felt so depressed. What a drag.

    • Sakura (to herself): Naruto just keeps getting stronger. Girl #1: Wow, he did it. He won the fight. Girl #2: Mhmm. He's on the track to success. And he's kinda cute too. Sakura (thinking) : I hate to admit it, Naruto, but I envy you. Watching your battle has made me realize I have to work really hard too, or I'll never get anywhere.

    • Gaara: I'm going to verify my existence. ~Japanese version

    • Baki: Gaara, where are you going? Gaara: To remind myself that I'm still alive.

    • Gemma: Good grief, after all that and he's still able to run around? What a stamina freak. ~Japanese version

    • Gemma: When captured birds grow wiser, they try to open the cage with their beaks. They don't give up, because they want to fly free again. ~Japanese version

    • Hiashi: (To Neji) Your father would have been proud of you. ~Japanese version
