The Demon in the Snow

Season 1, Episode 19, Aired
EDIT

Episode Summary

Zabuza is no longer Kakashi's enemy, and thanks to a little speech by Naruto about how ninja are, Zabuza takes on Gato's men single handedly. The Demon of the Hidden Mist takes his vengeance on Gato and all of those dumb enough to follow him, and apologizes to Haku for what he did to the kind little boy. After the group takes care of the rest of Gato's men, Zabuza asks Kakashi one final request, to see Haku one final time. This is Zabuza's requiem.moreless

  • This episode, an excellent concluding one, is just another reason why the Land of Waves Arc was one of the best in Naruto.

Again, this was an awesome end to the arc, and a really emotional one as well. You get a few strong emotional scenes, a badass one, character development, and what it really means to be a Shinobi.

You see Zabuza revealing his true feelings for what he thinks of Haku. It surprised me a bit to see him crying. I'm sure, along with many others, he instantly went from a disliked character to one you liked at this moment.

And even if you still didn't like him, the next scene where you see him in action should do it. Really, that scene was just badass. Zabuza, both arms broken, takes the Kunai with his mouth, killing some of Gato's men, taking a swords and spears in his back, and then passing them all to kill Gato. All of that happens to one of the awesome soundtracks in Naruto (Need to Be Strong, I believe it was called).

Now about Zabuza's death. It was amazingly emotional due to all the lead up to it with Haku, which let you know how much Haku gave his life to help Zabuza achieve his dream. I know most cried as Kakashi placed Zabuza's dying body next to Haku's as Zabuza thought of how he never thanked Haku, but could at least die by his side. By now, everyone should have liked Zabuza (you have no soul if you didn't!).

And then you get to see Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke, who question the Shinobi way, and what it really means to be a ninja. They ask that if as Shinobi, if they will just use and be used by people like tools. Kakashi confirms this, and Naruto says that he will find his own Shinobi way that is straight and true.

In the end, this was an excellent episode, and I think this was the best conclusion of any arc in the Naruto series.moreless

  • So sad... Rest in Peace

    "Perfect"
This was the saddest episode of Naruto in my opinion, Haku and Zabuza were great characters, and I cried when I saw Haku die for Zabuza and this episode was the begin of my hatred for Sakura. But seriously, the saddest scenes were when Zabuza asked to to be moved closer to Haku and when he said Haku had a pure heart and about how Haku was going to Heaven... and how he was going to Hell. The only part when I felt happy was when Zabuza killed Gato (Loser..). The end of the episode was beautiful though, seeing their graves. All in all this is a great but very sad episode.moreless

  • Haku and Zabuza's final scene.

Haku has just jumped in front of Kakashi to save Zabuza from Kakashi's Lightning Blade. Zabuza tries to take advantage of the situation but cannot hit Kakashi. Kakashi disables both of Zabuza's arms. Then Gato and his gang of thugs shows up and tells Zabuza that he no longer needs him and now plans to kill him. Naruto gives Zabuza a speech about Haku's devotion and loyalty. It finally makes Zabuza realize what he lost when Haku died. Zabuza decides he will take one more vengeful kill. He intends to kill Gato. Gato sees Zabuza charging and gets behind his men and orders them to kill Zabuza...moreless

  • God, the animation was too good!

    9.4
    "Superb"
Naruto's animation...what can I say? Inconsistent = There are those episodes that aren't as well drawn as the rest but the animation is a lot smoother, or there are the normal ones, with lazy animation but are better drawn. But this one...It was different. VERY different. The animation was too good to be true. It's almost impossible to believe that IT was a Naruto episode! (That's a lie. Naruto himself was in it a LOT, so it really couldn't be anything else, but you get my drift, right?) The mouth movement was so good, it made the dub, which I watch, look weird!

    This episode was also extremely sad. You can't resist feeling sympathy for Zabuza and Haku. In class, while reading this exact scene in the Naruto manga Vol.5, I had to actually avoid crying! TT_TT I hate when Anime and games (eg; FFVII - Aeris), make me cry, but I don't hate the anime or game, because obviously, for me to like a character so much taht it would make me cry, I would initially have to have liked it in the first place. The only parts I didn't like were;
    1) Gato in general. I don't know, I guess I HATE him
    2) Naruto and Inari crying. What a dull soppy scene. 3) In the manga, when they visit Zabuza and Haku's graves, Naruto tries to steal the offerings, which are some form of food. To shove in a joke like that after such a dramatic, tear-jerking scene...it completely ruined the mood.

    Brilliant episode, overall.moreless

The Demon in the Snow. Wow. This was an amazing episode. Even if you did not like Zabuza, you were crying. Not many episodes can do that. I cried everytime I watched the episode. Zabuza was just so cool! Gato was absolutly horrible... he deserved what he got. This episode was one of my favorites, because you could really get connected with what was going on. You really felt all of the emotion that was in the episode. This episode ends the Haku and Zabuza arc. A fine ending. It really shows that Naruto is strong, and Sasuke too. RIP Zabuza Rip Hakumoreless
