  • Pretty sad.

The loose emotional ties that are left over in the rescue Sasuke arc are being knotted up in this episode. Even though he was the one that was the least injured, Shikamaru takes it the hardest as he was the squad's leader and failed to capture Sasuke. Seeing Shikamaru taking a lectural pounding from everyone, and then to find out that his squad members, also his closest friends, have escaped death, was really sad to see. The fact that a 13 year old was able to lead like he did is praise worthy enough.

Didn't like the second half as much but it was still solid. It brings the stress over to Naruto's failure to bring back Sasuke despite making a surfire promise to Sakura that he'd bring him back. It was all right. The episode ended with a real bang though with Akatsuki making their move.
  • One of my favorite episodes!

I saw pictures of Shikamaru crying on google and deviantart. I wondered for the longest time what episode it was and when it would air. Shikamaru is my favorite character. Even though it was sad, I still liked the crying part. I think Shikamaru's cute! That's the only part I really liked. I got this episode put on my ipod, but I only watch that part. The beginning and the rest after Sakura learns that Naruto didn't bring Sasuke back is kinda boring. Especially when Pervy Sage comes, pretty boring. It just isn't as good as the rest of the episode.
  • Naruto breaks the news to Sakura

Kakashi has Naruto on his back heading back to the village. Naruto wakes up and asks where Sasuke is. Kakashi does not answer him. Then some medical ninjas show up and ask how Naruto is. Kakashi says that he is hurt, but will be fine. The ninjas tell Kakashi that they have found the other genin and that Shikamaru is slightly hurt, Kiba has a bad wound but will be fine, and that Chouji and Neji are both in critical condition. Naruto hears this and thinks back to when they first started out on the mission. As Naruto is in the hospital and talking to Skiamaru, Sakura overhears that Sasuke did not make it back.
  • Naruto gets back after having his encounter or battle with sasuke it also describes the damage of evryone of the Konoha 5 and tells how shikamaru feels about being a shinobi

it had a great storyline entrance it tells how Naruto gets back after having his encounter or battle with sasuke it also describes the damage of evryone of the Konoha 5 and tells how shikamaru feels about being a shinobi also it says what happen to sasuke and how skura feels about the mission not being a success but everyone came back alright also it encourages shikamaru to still be a shinobi even if his first as a leader was not a success he can still learn from his mistakes and try to be better next time and it says how everyone of the konoha 5 will be alright in the end
  • The conclushion to Shikamaru's mission of saving Sauske and the searis finale before Shippuden, if you don't count the fillers that is.

Kakashi has found Naruto in the Valley of End, ironic how the first hokage fought Mandara here as well as Sauske fought Naruto. He is taken back to the Leaf village where he is said to have searious injuries but not life threatning. We also find out that Shikamaru is injured but perfectly fine, as well as Kiba but he did get injured more seariously with Akamaru too. Neji and Choji are in critical condition but thanks to the Nara clans medicine and information, Tsunade is able to bring Choji into stable condition. At the same time, Shi,zune and a medical team are healing Neji's searius wounds and it turns out all right as well. Shikamaru is thinking about quiting being a ninja because he failed when it really mattered, but from a talk from Temari, his father, than Tsunade, he breaks down. Sakura then vists Naruto and he breaks down as well saying he couldn't keep the promise of a life time, but he will keep it true one day. Jaraiya then tells Naruto that he has to train with Jaraiya for in 3 to 4 years, the Akatsuki will come for him. He also says he can't change the fact Sauske left, that it was destiny and no matter what Naruto does, he can't save him. The manga ends here as Naruto goes with Jariya to train but in the anime, it continues with some fillers before then.
  • Sakura learns the truth about Sasuke...

Well, the Sasuke Retrieval Arc is officially over now. A team of Jonin brings back the squad. Shikamaru's injuries were very minor; he only suffered a broken finger. He waits in the waiting room with Temari, waiting to hear any news about the others. Meanwhile, Naruto is sulking in his hospital bed, only wishing he could have done more. Sakura and Ino come to visit them, and Sakura hears Naruto and Kakashi talking before she opens the door. She hears them talking about how Naruto couldn't convince Sasuke to come home, and she loses it, once again. Tsunade drops by, and tells her it's OK to go inside. Sakura opens the door, and Naruto spills his guts about how sorry he was about everything. Meanwhile, Choji is still in intensive care, so Ino can't see him, and she has to wait with his dad instead. Later, Jiraiya visits Naruto via the hospital window and tells them that they'll have to train together for three years in order to get Sasuke back, because that's how long Orochimaru will need to train him. Deep inside Orochimaru's lair, Sasuke has already pushed Kabuto out of second in command, and the Akatsuki are planning their rise to power.
  • this episode was awsome!!!

This episode was so sad well not busting out in tears but maybe tear, tear. And then when everyone was at the hospital. Chouji and Neji could have died but did not because of Lady Tsunade. Without her not have been returning to the village, they both would probably be dead right now. I was crying when sakura went to visit naruto and sasuke but sasuke was not there and naruto could not keep his promise so he made it the promise of a life time. This is the turning point of the series. And for all of the sasuke fans out there, he is still safe for three more years.
  • Sasuke comes to a fork in the road. Naruto learns more about his fate.

After the Rasengan vs. the Chidori II occurs with a draw, Sasuke is left with the decision of whether to kill Naruto or not. Sasuke doesn't kill Naruto and walks off claiming to find the power that Itachi spoke of on his own.

Sakura finds out that Naruto was unable to keep his promise to her. She tries to make a joke of it, but Naruto still swears to uphold his ninja way, still promising to bring Sasuke back to Sakura. Jiraiya shows up on Naruto's window and warns him of the Akatsuki. He informs Naruto that he has 3 years of training ahead to prepare himself for the Akatsuki.
  • Naruto and Kakashi come back to Konoha without Sasuke. How will everyone feel about this?

Well, this is the end of the Sasuke Retrieval arc and the fillers will start soon. This is a nice ending to the Sasuke Retrieval arc. The part where Shikamaru had cried was captured so well that you could feel the pain radiating from the television or on the computer depending on where you watched this episode. Also, it's good that everyone in the group has survived, but I knew they would live. Thinking back on the events that have happened from the first episode of the arc to this very episode, things have been tied in to conclude the arc. Some people might not think so, but if the events that happened in this arc never happened, some characters might not change. I feel indifferent about the fillers, but I can't wait to see how things turn out.
  • good ep

i guess this is the end of the Sasuke Arc and i like it i realy think it would have ended like this they revel that everyone is in the hospital and that naruto is still alive (i knew it since the last episode naruto couldent die in this episode) when i first saw this episode i was happy to see neji, naruto, and everyone else alive. im going to miss the Sasuke Arc and i hope the newer episode would be awsome (i know they will) even though i saw it i cant wait till see the next episode i give this episode a 9.2/10
  • The end of the first part.

Shikamaru waits as Tsunade, $hizune and the rest of the medical ninja work to save Choji and Neji, as well as heal the others. When Sakura finds out they are back, she goes immediately to see Sasuke and Naruto, but finds out Sasuke got away. Sakura says that next time they will rescue Sasuke together. Jiraiya tells Naruto that he will train him with his fight against Akatsuki. This was a good episode because we learn what Naruto is going to be doing, how long they have to get to Sasuke, what the next big obstacle Naruto has to cover and who survived the ordeal with the Sound. I cant wait till the fillers are over and Shippuden starts.
  • End of Sasuke Arc

This episode the last one of the retrieve Sasuke Arc(Besides the fillers) In this episode Naruto and Sasuke battle is over and so is everyone else's battles. Naruto is retrieved by Kakashi how is to late to stop the battle.Choji and Neji are in badly injured and with the help of the 5th and **** they are all ok in the end. Naruto has to tell Sakura that he could not keep his promise. Sakura tries to say it is ok but Naruto knows that she is just making him fell better. This episode if very sad for all Naruto fans because not only does it end a great arc but it also brings....FILLERS there i said it so bascilly most Naruto fans take a break or watch the Japan verison for a while.:(
  • Trouble up ahead

I liked this episode. It gave an insight what Naruto will face in the future. Three more years sounds so dreading. Orochimaru and Akatsuki. grrr. It was nice to see a more serious toad sage.(Jiraiya) But the future looks like its gonna be rough. The gang came back which was nice too see. I think Temari likes Shika. Shika seemd a little shocked to hear about his failing. But hey you dont win all the time.
  • "The Promise That I Could Not Keep" – In Konoha hospital Shikamaru and Tsunade speak of the need for medical-nins on four man mission squads.

"Fool...!!" – At the fallen ninja memorial Kakashi chastizes himself for not being able to have seen Sasuke's leaving and helped him better. As we travel back to Naruto's hospital room, Jiraiya appears on a toad outside his window. Jiraiya tells Naruto Akatsuki is still after him but won't appear again for three years. He then tells Naruto that he is now his apprentice and to give up trying to get Sasuke to return. Naruto stubbornly refuses and agrees to train under Jiraiya for the next three years. Yondaime Hokage Chapter 238: "The Day of Setting Off!!" – At Orochimaru's compound Sasuke has finally arrived and demands Orochimaru train him. Three months later we see Sakura's growth under Tsunade as she is able to revive a dead fish. Throughout the village the Konoha Genin reflect on their desire to train and get stronger. Naruto has one last meal with Iruka and then sets off determined to get stronger. We then travel to a dark cavern where all the members of Akatsuki have gathered. Plotting amongst themselves the members agree that if they capture Kyuubi in three years, the can accomplish their goals. This ends the present plotline of Naruto Part One.
  • Very good but could have been better.

This episode could have very good as an hour long special if it was truly the ending to part 1. It was great as Naruto snaps out of his depression to continue to train and get stronger. Naruto is upset at first for not being able to keep a promise, a first for him but learns to move on. Shikamaru is shown very emotional and hard on himself this episode but his family and friends snap him out of it. The ending also shows hope. But this also is the last canon episode for part 1 which is disappointing. If it was like its manga counterpart it would have been considered one of the best.
  • great episode

well the episode was really great it was really touching and it was almost the perfect ending of the first half of naruto...the friendship between naruto and sasuke was really great trughout the whole naruto series even hidden deep inside him... this episode reminds me of the episode when they were fighting Haku only this time they weren't on the same side... it was really hard to see sasuke going to the other side and joining Orochimaru after 130 episodes weher he was a friend a hero and a leader of naruto and sakura...he was an inspiration to naruto and their competition about who is best was really in its end...amasing episode
