Episode Summary

Explosion In The North Sea
The Piper Alpha was an off-shore drilling platform, located in the North Sea. But on the night of 6 July 1988, a series of explosions erupted resulting in the deaths of 167 workmen. A few survivors share their tale of how they escaped from the inferno and their plunge into the deep sea waters below. With computer graphics imaging, a step-by-step look into the initial explosion and the resulting chain of explosions leading to the complete destruction of the rig is presented. Results from a 2 year investigation into the disaster, and the recovery of maintenance documents from the bottom of the sea, provides an explanation to the cause of the events that led to the world’s worst ever off-shore disaster.moreless
