With this brisky-paced episode, "National Velvet" takes a melodramatic and action-filled turn, in which all regular cast members are given equal opportunity to shine. A wildfire breaks out, requiring volunteers such as Herbert (Arthur Space) and Mi (Jimmy McCallion) to help put it out, while the women and children remain behind to protect the home. Several perilous situations arise, giving absolutely every character a moment to experience growth within the unfolding of the 26-minute plot. It is a gripping and well-directing episode, and the performances are uniformly excellent.moreless
