The plot for this episode, used by other series in various ways, has Martha Brown (Ann Doran) winning a blue ribbon at the fair for her splendid preserves, using recipes handed down by her grandmother. A large manufacturer wishes to sign her to a contract, hoping to sell her jams and jellies nationwide. This, of course, disrupts life on the small dairy farm and distresses the proud, gruff Herbert (Arthur Space), whose farming temporarily takes a back seat to his wife's preserve-making. The reactions of Martha and Herbert to this sudden change in their situations - wonderfully worked out by Doran and Space - make this episode work. The inevitable bursting of the bubble restores tranquility to the farm and its likeable inhabitants.moreless
