Final Score
Butler 52 Michigan State 50
This was Butler's first Final Four appearance.
This was Michigan State's eighth Final Four appearance.
Butler became the first team to play in a Final Four in their home city since UCLA in 1972.
Jim Nantz: Nine on the game for Sheldon Mack, who just got the rebound at one end and pulled up hit the three at the other.
Clark Kellogg: We call that raking it and taking it, partner.
Michigan State Forward Delvon Roe: That was probably the biggest problem with our game today. We just couldn't get into a rhythm because we had too many people in foul trouble. When you've got so many people in foul trouble, you can't play as aggressively as you would like to on defense and even on offense, you're scared to shove a guy or make a move, because you're afraid to make a foul.
Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo: If I was not playing, I'd be a Butler fan. I like they way they play, I like their story. They play like a Big Ten team.
Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo: It was one of the more physical games we've been involved in. Playing in the Big Ten, that's a lot to say.
Butler Guard-Forward Gordon Hayward: We've been talking about the next game all year, and it's great to be able to say the next game's for a national championship.
(on going almost 11 minutes during the second half without a field goal)
Butler Guard-Forward Gordon Hayward: It did seem like it was a long time. But for us, as long as we guard, we feel like we can be in the game. That's what we've tried to do all year.
In a halftime feature, CBS Analyst and former Ohio State All-American Clark Kellogg engaged President Obama in a game of H-O-R-S-E at the White House basketball court. The game was renamed P-O-T-U-S, which is the President's Secret Service designation and stands for President Of The United States. The President won the game, despite trailing P-O-T-U to P-O. Mr. Obama insisted that Clark purposely missed a couple of shots when he had a comfortable lead!
