Final Score
Southern Illinois 77 Georgia 75
Georgia's appearance in the 2002 NCAA Tournament was later vacated by the NCAA due to academic fraud and unethical conduct by assistant coach Jim Harrick Jr., the coach's son.
(on falling behind 30-11)
Southern Illinois Coach Bruce Weber: They were the aggressor early. We became the aggressor, and then Jermaine got us back into to it. We set a goal -- it sounded crazy back in the spring -- to make the Sweet 16. Right now the Southern Illinois Salukis are going to be there.
Georgia Forward Rashad Wright: We should have kept the pressure on them. They made a great comeback. They played good defense, good pressure, and they tried to make us do things we didn't want to do.
Southern Illinois Forward Jermaine Dearman: Our new goal now is to beat UConn. We set team goals all year. We said we wanted to make the NCAA Tournament, we wanted to win our conference and we wanted to go to the Sweet 16. We've reached all our previous team goals.
