  • Um.

    5.0
NCIS: Los Angeles has all the tools to be a successful show: big name actors, being a spin-off of TV's most popular show and having the best time slot on TV, following said show. But for some reason the show has not met my expectations in its first eight airings.

Maybe it is because I am not a fan of the original NCIS, or maybe it's just because there are so many superior police shows out there, but I'm just not feeling the program. I hope it will get better over time, it's still in its early stages after all, but this is just not quality right now.moreless
  • I loved this one!

This was perhaps the best episode of this show so far. I t was definitely very interesting and highly enjoyable, and quite different and unique from anything attempted in the past.

I thought the storyline was perfect and could really use little to or no improvement at all, in ny opinion. It was really well written, and in my opinion, almost up to the caliber of an NCIS episode, which is great to finally see!

Overall, a magnificent episode, and this show is head ed int the right direction. I hope it continues to go this way, because it had the posential to be great!moreless
  • After a Marine is found dead while working for Naval Intelligence, NCIS is brought in to investigate the work of a militia group who is working against the government in the illegal alien situation. This group had stolen major weaponry from the Marines.moreless

    8.0
Patriots which sometimes is another word for whack jobs who parade as concerned citizens who are really pushing their own agendas. Fighting for a cause. A very dangerous group to get involved in as they don't trust anyone or anything.

Special Agent Mike Renko played by Brian Avers joins the hunt with Callen, Hanna and Blye as they try to infiltrate one of these groups through a suspected Marine Private who is on the inside. Somehow the Private who was involved in munitions managed to steal six hand held rockets and get them off the base in a very clever way. Unfortunately he managed to not realize the lunacy of the men he was dealing with.

Heddy is off in Washington before Congress testifying on one thing or another about appropriations and so when she finds out what is going on she flips out. It turns out she lost an agent on a similar case years before. She blames Vance for getting her boys in harms way so she does something about it.

Pretty entertaining, but outlandish, almost cowboyish episode that sort of pushed the level of belief a lot. It was entertaining though and the banter was good. Kensi proves herself in the field to be as good or better than one of the boys so that was interesting. If they are going to have Callen go undercover I hope it's on more realistic investigations in the future. Thanks for reading...moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Goof: Kensi extends her arm and checks to see if the dragon missile is in the bag. When the attacker starts choking her, her arm is still extended and she makes a "choking" expression on her face. However, if you go frame by frame you will see Kensi standing with no arm extension and you can see her face waiting to be "choked" again by the attacker. The second shot shows that the actors were doing a separate take from the previous shot.

    • Goof: The suspect attempted to strangle Kensi with a wire from behind, yet in later scenes, she has no red marks or bruising on her neck.

    • Goof: Kensi is surprised from behind and has an extended fight with the suspect, who pulls a knife on her. Yet she never pulls her gun out, which can be plainly seen in her rear waistband of her pants, after the fight is over. Only, the gun is not seen during the actual fight when you see her backside. Also, the suspect mentions she had a gun in a later scene.

    • Hetty insists on being called Miss instead of Ms., implying she is unmarried.

  • QUOTES (9)

    • Sam: Positive reinforcement has been proven to work.
Callen: I prefer negative reinforcement, silent treatment, the cold shoulder. Make people squirm, they'll perform.
Sam: It's also an acceptable form of human contact.
Callen: Which I want nothing to do with.

    • Eric: Hetty! Wants you upstairs. Oh and she said one point for whoever gets up here first.
(Sam, Callen and Renko all run up the stairs; once in the operations room Hetty's not there)
Sam: (to Eric) Are you playin' us? Because you'd better not be.

    • (Hetty's on the speakerphone, briefing the men, Callen puts the phone on mute)
Callen: Am I the only one who thinks this is weird?
Eric: Oh, yeah, we all think it's weird.
      Callen: Just checkin'.
      (un-mutes phone)
Hetty: I heard that Mr. Callen.

    • Director Vance: Welcome to DC, Henrietta.
Hetty: Director Vance, door-to-door service, how out of character.
Director Vance: Well people can change and I owe you one, big time.
Hetty: You do, especially for forcing me to leave the children in charge.
Director Vance: How much trouble can they get into in eight hours?

    • (Phone rings)
      Eric: This is Eric.
Hetty: It's good to hear you still know who you are.
Eric: Ah, Hetty, you having a good time in Washington?
Hetty: The last person to have a good time in Washington was General Jubal Early in 1864; he was attacking it at the time.

    • (Callen fumbling for something as he is chained to a stove with Sam)
Callen: Bobby pin. I started wearing it in the '90s. I haven't used it since.
Sam: That's the most well trained display of standard operating procedure I've ever seen from you.

    • (To reach Callen inside the militia camp, Sam lets himself and Callen be captured)
      Callen: You wanna explain yourself?
Sam: Explain myself? I saved your skinny ass.
Callen: Let's see, I had a gun and a hostage before you got here. Now I'm chained to a stove with a concussion, that's a nice save.
Sam: Ten more seconds, you'd have a dozen new bullet holes in you.
      Callen: Now what?
Sam: I was hoping you had some ideas.
Callen: I'm thinking I want my gun and my hostage back.

    • Callen: (sees a teenage militia member) You've got to be kidding me. I'm being shot at by a Jonas Brother... And I think I'm about to meet the rest of the family.

    • Callen: You know that was really stupid coming in to get me.
Sam: You're calling me stupid? You wanted to "Butch Cassidy" me. You wanted to run for it.
Callen: Yeah, it wasn't my best idea.
Sam: You wanted to "Custer's last stand" me. You want to "Alamo" me.
Callen: You going to put that in your little report, with color-coded tabs?
Sam: Yeah, tabs marked "Dumb ass idea".
Callen: Nice job, Special Agent Hanna.
Sam: Aah, you said it. You feel good?
Callen: Nah, it cheapens the work.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • The word Sam & Callen send back to operations is Maskelyne, which triggers Hetty to create a plan to fool the militia into believing they were outnumbered. Jasper Maskelyne (1902–1973) worked as a British stage magician during the 1930s & 1940s. He worked for the British military intelligence during WWII and is credited for helping the Allies in creating large-scale ruses, deception, and camouflage.
