  • Quotes

    • (Callen walks in)
Hetty: I already sent the others upstairs.
      Callen: Good morning, Hetty.
Hetty: Well that's a matter of perspective, Mr. Callen. Uh, I've been doing some accounting and I came across an anomaly in your expenses. This is a fourteen hundred dollar restaurant bill from Matsukisa.
Callen: Um-hmm, that's from the Miygomi case.
Hetty: (astonished) You mean it's not a mistake? You actually spent fourteen hundred dollars on raw fish!
Callen: Not me, my alias Tony Z did.
Hetty: Ah, ah...and is Tony Z going to reimburse me?
Callen: Well, you'll have to talk to him about that.
      Hetty: Uh-huh.
Callen: Hetty, when I go undercover as a beach bum, I eat off the Kogi truck. When I'm going after a high roller, I've got to hit it a little harder.
      Hetty: Try ordering soup, player.
      Callen: I'll tell Tony that.
      Hetty: You do that.

    • (They open a refrigerator and a body falls out)
Sam: Well, he's clearly past his expiration date.

    • Hetty: Thirty–two hours.
      Nate: Excuse me?
Hetty: You had thirty-two hours of overtime last week.
Nate: Oh, yeah, yeah, it was a busy one.
Hetty: Apparently, you've had a lot of busy ones, you have seven weeks of unused vacation time owing.
      Nate: I do?
Hetty: Were you planning on sailing around the world?
Nate: No, just busy. You know working, just a lot.
Hetty: Yes, we established that back at the start of the conversation.

    • Moe: I still remember the first time you took me to the sea.
Sam: The Gulf of Aden, you were eight.
Moe: I'd never seen so much water. The ocean made you feel safe.

    • (Hetty has just told the team that they have to back off the case-immediately)
Callen: We're putting together a good case here, a big one.
Sam: Hetty, Safari's up to something, we can't stop now.
Hetty: This is coming from "on high". When I say "on high", I mean those with the political venom to end the careers of each and every one of us, including Director Vance.
Kensi: I can't believe this, all we need is a little more time.
Hetty: I know, I know. If I may slip into the vernacular, "It Sucks". But when you hear from again in an hour or so, you will shut this down.

    • (Hetty is typing on an old typewriter, Callen walks up)
Callen: Is this another money saving cut back or are you writing your Hollywood tell all memoir.
Hetty: It's a eulogy for an old friend.
      Callen: I'm sorry.
Hetty: This was his typewriter, it seemed fitting, almost poetic, three hours ago. Now it just seems like a lachrymose act of folly.
Callen: Well, I can't help you there… Lachrymose intolerant.
Hetty: You would have liked him. He was the perfect combination of scholar, solder and scoundrel.
Callen: Was he a romantic friend?
Hetty: No, no. I'm afraid he was married to his job, he worked for an intelligence service in England. Never married, no children, but a stellar career. He died alone in his office, filling out paperwork. Something you'll never have to worry about.

    • Callen: How about Saturday? There's a Rembrandt exhibit at the Norton Simon Museum. I'll pick you up at eleven.
      Hetty: Rembrandt, Mr. Callen?
Callen: Don't get too excited, I just go there to meet chicks. And essentially, you'll be my wingman.
Hetty: I'd relish the assignment if only it were true.
