  • The NCIS team come together when Deeks is shot.

In this episode Deeks is shot and in previous episodes it has been made to look like team members have been shot before the intro like Sam and Kensi but this was one was real and it wasn't a random shooting Sam and Kensi was more worried about Deeks because it reminds them of the Dom incident and they can't live through another partner dying Later we find out Deeks wasn't the only target so that means it has to be the person who spends every episode with him This episode was a good episode with a twist definitely a nine.moreless
  • Because of the buzz on Eric Christian Olsen's twitter account, I decided to watch this one, and I'm very glad I did!

I'm a hardcore NCIS fan (which we must remember is also a spin-off, one of JAG), and while I gave NCIS-La a shot early on in the first season, it just didn't click with me. I do love Eric Christian Olsen from way back when in "Fired Up" and more recently in the hilarious first season of Community, so when I found out that this would be a Deeks-focused episode where he would be shot, I decided to put my past opinions behind me and let the show have a fresh start.

    The highlights in my opinion:

-LL Cool J's react when he hears Deeks has been shot (though I didn't much care for the reactions of the others, unfortunately)

-Every second that Deeks was onscreen, even though I am extremely biased due to my love of E.C.O.

    -Deek's jello bit.

-The heroic Deeks-saves-the-day ending, especially the dressing of his wounds and LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell's dumbfounded gee-I'm-not-really-needed-here looks. Classic.moreless

"Personal" is another fun episode of NCIS: Los Angeles, a show that is starting to find its footing this season. I doubted the ability of this show to run for a long time, but I think it has legs after seeing the quality they have achieved the first two years.

The episode focused heavily on Deeks and Kensi, and this is really becoming a fun partnership to follow. Two good actors who bring freshness to the cop show genre, and that is really the key. How Kensi noticed that Deeks was back when he made comments about women was amusing. That is one of the reasons the NCIS franchise has been so successful, they have energetic partnerships on their shows, not the same old same old.

Great episode. Little bit of action, little bit of comedy, good storyline, just about all you could ask for.moreless
  • Amazing!

This episode started out perfectly. Deeks' shooting, the team finding out. I loved Kensi's reaction to the news and the mentions of Dom. It was a very emotional episode to. Kensi and Deeks' banter was hilarious as always! I liked the 'shot in the but' part.

The ending was perfect; finding out about Deeks' past was a very good twist and a perfect way to end the episode. I'd love for this to be mentioned in the future; maybe Kensi finding out? It was something I expected from when he mentioned he had shot him at age 11.

Personally, I would have preferred it if Kensi had been put down as next of kin,her being his partner and all.moreless
  • Very impressive episode! This one explored some great themes!

This episode was delicately interwoven to bring back a case handled in the season's second episode, 'Black Widow', which in my opinion is easily one of the best ones of the saeaon. This one is somewhere along the same line.

The episode starts off with a very tenxe scene, and that sets a nervous and intriguing tone throughout the remainder of the episode.

I thinkk it was a great episode idea to bring back the elusive Vakar, who was after his wife and son from the aforementioned 'Black Widow' episode. That was just a great aspect to this episode, and I have a feeling that Emma might just opop up somewhere (I certainly hope so!).

All up, interesting case! Great humour, as Deeks alludes to Fern, back for 'Fame' in Season 1,and even a great insight into Deeks' past, as we find out his afather has been dead for 13 years.

I'd highly recommend this episode. Th e last couple of seconds of the episode were just as powrful as the rest of it, when Deeks asks, "Who should I put as my next of kin?" and Hetty replies, "Lange, Henrietta."

I'm imprsesed with this episode! Keep it up, and I think NCIS: LA is going from strength to strength!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Goof: The file that Hetty gives to Nell says that Deeks' father, Gordon John Brandel, was born 3/16/1969 which would make him only 8 to 10 years old when Deeks was born.

    • Goof: In the episode "Borderline", Deeks tells Kensi the last time he saw his father was Thanksgiving 6 years ago (making it 2004) and his father told him he hated him, then fired a shotgun at him. In this episode, Hetty tells Deeks that Deeks shooting his father when he was eleven was in self defense, because his father was wielding a shotgun. However, Hetty also tells Deeks his father died in 1998.

    • Goof: In the scene where Deeks first awakes, Kensi leans her arm on the bed rail and the rolling bedside chair nearly gets away from her.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Callen: (at the hospital) The place is crawling with LAPD. You should be safe.
Deeks: (referring to Kensi) Yeah? Who's gonna protect me from her?
Kensi: Oh, I think he's feeling better.
Sam: After you recover, you and I are gonna talk.
Deeks: Hey, if you see Nurse Debbie out there, will you, uh, will you ask her when I get my sponge bath?
      Kensi: Definitely feeling better.

    • Callen: (in the warehouse) Doesn't add up. We're the targets, this is the perfect place for an ambush.
Sam: Unless we're not the targets.
Deeks: (in the hospital) If I'm not the target, why does Santo and his buddy come back to the hospital? (sudden realization) KENSI!!!
Callen & Sam: (cut back to the warehouse) Kensi!

    • Deeks: Ok, so then why's he carrying a .22? It's a girl's gun.
      Kensi: I'm a girl.
Deeks: Well, you're not a real girl. You're like - you're like Wonder Woman. And Wonder Woman wouldn't carry a .22.
      Kensi: Compliment accepted.

    • Sam: (after hearing that Deeks was shot) Let's take my car.
Hetty: I said Mr. Deeks is in surgery. I think your particular skills would be better served at the crime scene.
Kensi: Hetty, uh, Deeks is my second partner to get shot. So I would really like to be there...look, the last time I wasn't there for my partner, he was dead the next time I saw him. So please...okay?
Hetty: I think your partner would want you there when he wakes up.

    • Kensi: What is it with guys and nurses?
Deeks: Whaddaya talkin' about?...Well, they're helpful, and they're know, they do the whole sponge bath thing...
Kensi (makes a face): Oh, come...! I should shoot you myself!

    • Deeks (Coming out of the anesthesia): Am I dead? 'Cause I feel like I should be dead.
Kensi (starts up out of her chair in relief): Hey there! You're not getting rid of me that easily.
      Deeks: ...Do I know you?
      Kensi (grins): Deeks...
      Deeks: Not my nurse?
Kensi (smile fading): I'm serious, Deeks.
Deeks: ...My name is Deeks? Really?
(Kensi, scared, turns to get a nurse)
Deeks: I'm just kidding. I remember you, Fern.
Kensi (relieved and annoyed): Yeah? You're funny guy? I'm gonna punch you in your bullet-hole.
Deeks: (stretches and winces) That sounds vaguely dirty; I think I'm gonna have to tell Hetty.
