Season 5 Episode 1

Bury Your Dead

Aired Tuesday 8:00 PM Sep 25, 2007 on CBS

  • Trivia

    • TRIVIA: Ducky mentions Tony having had the plague from the episode 2x22 "SWAK".

    • GOOF: Jenny's hair is significantly longer in back and styled differently than in the previous episode "Angel of Death", even though the Director has supposedly fallen asleep in her chair after the last episode and woken up the next morning at the beginning of this episode.

    • TRIVIA: McGee's seasickness from season 2 episode "Bikini Wax" seems to have disappeared.

    • GOOF: At the start of the shot of Tony and La Grenouille getting coffee, the camera man is visible in the reflection of the muffin case.

    • TRIVIA: When the team show up to Tony's blown up car there are several shots showing the background and in those shots you can see skyscrapers. They are supposed to be in DC yet the skyscraper that is visible is that of the US Bank Tower, or Library Tower, in L.A.

    • TRIVIA: The weapon carried by the dead body in Tony's Mustang was indeed a SiGARMS P226 that is standard issue to NCIS; from the last season 4 episode, Tony was in fact not carrying his weapon, as displayed when he went to draw it when going into the morgue of the hospital to detain the drug dealer. The driver must have got it from under the seat.

    • TRIVIA: The soundtrack that is playing on Tony DiNardo's voice mail is the theme tune for Twentieth Century Fox.

    • TRIVIA: Tony's driver's license picture is the same one on his finger print identification in the episode 3x09, "Frame-Up."

  • Quotes

    • Gibbs: (after Jenny's gun was unloaded by La Grenouille) If the weapon was loaded and I wasn't here, would you have pulled the trigger?!
Jenny: I guess we'll never know.

    • Kort: La Grenouille flew to DC this morning, he didn't arrive in his safe house, and his satellite phone has stopped transmitting.
Gibbs: Mislaid your arms dealer, that gotta be embarrassing!

    • La Grenouille: Love has a way of blinding us... of our imperfections.
      Tony: It's still love...

    • La Grenouille: So, what has Jeanne told you about me?
Tony: Oh, everything... world's greatest dad!

    • Ziva: Does the Director know?
      Jenny: (walking in) Know what?
McGee: That it's a Saturday and we are all here on our day off... because we... love our jobs!

    • Ziva: Teams do not have secrets Gibbs, and if you do not tell me what you and McGee were doing here all night- (Gibbs just looks at her) McGee knows he will... eventually.

    • (Elevator doors open, showing Tony smiling inside)
Tony: (To Kort, laughs) Hey! My car blew up this morning! Did you do that?

    • Tony: You might wanna take the stairs... I had an upset tummy this morning.
(Kort walks into the elevator) Pee-yeew...

    • Abby: Gibbs, I know who blew up Tony's car... Well, not Tony's car, but his alias, and not exactly who, but more like how and why.
McGee: Do you have a motive?
Abby: Me no! But they do.

    • Tony (entering the office; grinning at the team): What, no balloons?

    • (McGee and Ziva run into each other as the elevator doors open)
McGee and Ziva: What are you doing here?
      Ziva: I asked first.
McGee: Well technically, Ziva, I think that if we were to put that to the test, you'd find that it was too close to call.
      Ziva: Hmmm...
McGee: But since my parent raised a gentleman and yours raised a killer... I was de-fragging my computers.
      Ziva: Liar.

    • Abby: Tony is not dead, Gibbs, not until Ducky says it's him. Until then, he's not here. I don't care what the evidence says, even if everything here belongs to Tony, it's not him until Ducky says it's him, and don't try to tell me anything different because I'm not gonna believe you. (hugs Gibbs) Tell me it's not him.
Gibbs: I wish I could, Abbs.

    • Jenny: You're not supposed to fall in love with them.
Tony: Thank you so much for that, Director. I'm going to keep that in mind for next time. Wait a second! There's not gonna be a next time!
      Jenny: What did Jeanne say?
Tony: Nothing I'm going to tell you.
      Jenny: Agent DiNozzo!
Tony: Nothing you need to know, Director!

    • Tony: You ever lied to someone you loved Ziva?
      Ziva: Yes.
      Tony: They ever forgive you?
      Ziva: They never found out.

    • Abby: Everybody else gave you up for dead, even Ziva.
Ziva: OK, so I may have acted a little hastily.
      Tony: That's my letter opener.
Ziva: Excellent balance and weight. The edge is a little dull, but I've always admired it.
Tony: Where's my American Pie coffee mug?
      Abby: Palmer.
      Tony: Mighty Mouse stapler?
      Abby: Ducky... Hey, Ducky.
(Ducky reaches over Tony's cubicle wall)
Ducky: My dear fellow, I never believed it for a moment. Welcome home. (Ducky hands Tony the stapler)
Gibbs: It's not every day people think you're dead, DiNozzo.

    • Kort: The agency had nothing to do with it.
Gibbs: That when you mislaid your frog in all that confusion?

    • Ziva: Is everything cool with the director and Gibbs?
      Tony: Beyond cool, almost icy.

    • Jenny: His cover is teaching film online in an American University.
      Ziva: Tony, a teacher?
McGee: No wonder he's been compromised. Whose bright idea was that?
      Jenny: Mine!

  • Allusions

    • When Tony says "Meet the parents, part 2. I hate sequels," he is referring to Meet the Fockers, the sequel starring Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, as well as the new characters, the Fockers, played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand.

    • Ducky: He never had the plague!

This is an allusion to the episode 2x22, "SWAK," when Tony contracted the plague from the content of a small white envelope.
