  • Another all-time classic

Great case, well worked out storyline, extremely good acting out of the ordinary NCIS, great movie reference to The Defiant Ones. One of my all-time favourites that I can watch over and over without getting tired of it. Favourite scene is probably when McGee tells the bitchy Secretary of the State to - stick it!
  • Tony goes undercover.

Tony goes undercover as a prisoner who escapes from the prison bus with another prisoner chained to him. He and this Jeffery guy escape from the bus after they choke the bus driver and he passes out, which, you soon find out that it was all planned and the driver wasn't hurt- just faking it. Tony and Jeffery get as far away as they can from the scene of the "crime", while Tony has to find out who the other person is that is working with Jeffery, who has been arrested for stealing Iraqi artifacts. Tony is finally led to a lot with storage containers and one of them has the artifacts in it. Jeffery pulls out a knife and Tony kills him in self-defense.

My favorite parts of this ep were when McGee had to talk to the lady in MTAC and at the end when he told her to "Stick It" and then proceded to "hang up" on her. The look on her face was priceless and the round of applause from the rest of the people in MTAC was too. Overall, another great ep from season two and I recommend watching this ep if you haven't already.moreless
  • Undercover Tony

So.. this episode starts with something what looks like prisonbreak.. but we soon realize it is a part of big operation and Tony is working as undercover with "not so dangerous" bad guy.. who soon turns out to be very dangerous and Kate at least is worried about Tony.. Gibbs seams to avoid dealing with it. So, we have episode what have great char-pairs dynamic: Tony and that villain escaping, Kate and Gibbs tracking them. And McGee has great standout too - getting his courage together and doing what he knows is best for the investigation. So, it was enjoyable and exciting episodemoreless
  • Very enjoyable Tony episode.

Dying his hair black, makes Tony look surprisingly dangerous. He's the ideal person for the assignment – he's a natural people person and he's got a way of making people open up to him. He really should have agreed to the subdermal implant, an implant in a shoe is just stupid. I always enjoy seeing Gibbs worried about Tony, Gibbs is a closed book so it's a rare thing to have Gibbs show concern.

Jeffrey is a complete nuisance, petty criminal who is apparently not cut out for life on the run. He's not exactly what he seems to be, he puts on this poor defenseless puppy routine and Tony actually falls for it. It's easy to assume that Lane is the killer but it's Jeffrey.

McGee did very well with the Deputy Secretary of State, he's impressive when he stands up for himself, he just needs a shove in the back. Loved Gibbs' twisted pride about that.moreless
  • A remarkable episode, full of edge of your seat action!

This episode was a highly entertaining one, full of everything you could ask for. It had the great storyline, awesome humour and great moments.

This episode is one of the Top Five from this season, in my opinion, and as such, it truly is an unmissable one. The case is solved in a very unusual technique, with one team member posing as an undercover convict.

The episode took quite a few unexpected turns, which is always great, and there were some funny jokes, particularly the one where DiNozzo referred to his dog as 'Kate'.

Overall, this episode is one of my favorites, and I highly recommend watching this one. It is packed full of intense action, and everything I have mentioned thus far.

    Another great addition!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • GOOF: When Kate discovers the body of "Lane Harrison", Gibbs says that the throat was slashed to the spine, she then says that "Lane Harrison didn't kill those two guys in Seattle." When earlier, Abby had said there were three murders tied to Lane in Seattle. Further, when Ducky is examining the body, Kate says, "We think that he's responsible for three other murder, same M.O."

    • GOOF: McGee, when talking to the Deputy Secretary of State, names "Lane Danielson" as Jeffrey White's partner, and refers to that same name again to her later. In all other references to this person, intra-team, the name is "Lane Harrison." Two total uses of "Danielson", by McGee; and 5 using "Harrison" by Abby (2), Kate (1), McGee (1) and Gibbs (1).

    • TRIVIA: The chain between the cuffs looks (in the earlier-mentioned trivia submission) about 2 feet long. Jeffrey's right arm is chained to Tony's left arm, but with Tony driving the truck we see at least twice that Jeffrey's right arm is resting on the passenger side window ledge.

    • TRIVIA: When Tony and Jeffrey get to the house trailer they are still in the orange jump suits. Once inside , we see they have changed clothes. They could very well have cut off the jump suits, but it is impossible for two people whose arms are chained together to just put on a shirt. While it does appear that Tony may have cut the sleeves down the seam and is sewing them back together again, but to do that he would have to have cut the seam from the cuff of the sleeve to the armpit and then cut the seam of the shirt from the armpit to the bottom. Quite a job to do twice... by hand.

    • GOOF: After Tony wrecks the truck, Gibbs and Kate show up. Gibbs is talking to the biker while getting in the car. Kate's window is up, and in a flash it's down.

  • QUOTES (18)

    • McGee: Boss, it's only been like 10 seconds. I know I'm good, but I'm not that good.

    • Tony: What is it, drugs?
Jeffrey: Stuff from Iraq. Like from 100,000 years ago.
Tony: There were no people then, Jeffrey.
      Jeffrey: Whatever. It's old.

    • Gibbs: Okay, I'm going to tell you how to handle this. Next time she calls, you give her two words from the bottom of your heart.
      McGee: Two words.
      Gibbs: 'Stick it!'
McGee: 'Stick it'?! I'm not sure I... (Gibbs hangs up on him)

    • Deputy Secretary of State Elliot: So, you lost the agent who is chained to Jeffrey White?
      McGee: Well, yes, but...
Dep. Sec. State Elliot: Using the transitive property, then, that leads me to the conclusion that NCIS has lost Jeffrey White!
      McGee: No.
Dep. Sec. State Elliot: No? Then you have Jeffrey White in custody?
      McGee: Well, I... I... It...
Dep. Sec. State Elliot: (giving up in disgust) Call me the minute you find him. Or whenever your mouth begins to work again. Whichever comes first.

    • McGee: So where did you finally put the GPS?
Abby: I thought about subdermal implantation.
      McGee: Ah, under the skin.
Abby: Yeah, like, maybe in his neck. Tony wouldn't go for it, but I would have loved to have done that.
      McGee: Didn't consider a suppository?
Abby: I thought of it. He balked.
      McGee: Surprising.
Abby: Yeah. I put it in his shoe. Really boring.

    • Kate: Let's break the pattern.
      Gibbs: What pattern?
Kate: Dishonest, silence pattern. I'll start. I'm worried for Tony. There. I said it. I dropped my guard for two seconds. I got it out. And now I am .. Happy.
      Gibbs: That made you happy?
Kate: Yes. Don't you wanna be happy, Gibbs?
      Gibbs: I am happy.
      Kate: You don't look happy.
      Gibbs: We're done with this.
      Kate: I thought we were.

    • Gibbs: I got people calling me every five minutes asking if I have a VW for sale.
      McGee: A VW?
      Gibbs: It's a car McGee.
McGee: Oh no. I know. I just didn't know you owned a VW.
Gibbs: Do I seem like the kind of guy who would drive a squishy little car?!

    • Tony: The movie, The Defiant Ones? Tony Curtis... Sidney Poitier?
Jeffrey: I think I'm having an asthma attack!
Tony: Great movie! These two guys, right--A black guy and a white guy--escape from a southern chain gang. They're chained together, just like we are.
      Jeffrey: We're not black.
Tony: (pauses) My grandmother was black.
      Jeffrey: Oh, okay...

    • Gibbs: I've never lost an agent undercover. I'm not going to let DiNozzo screw that up.

    • Jeffrey: Morning... something wrong?
Tony: I'm not used to waking up this close to a man's face Jeffrey.

    • Tony: I'm not having this conversation with you Jeffrey. For the 300th time, shut your pie hole.

    • Jeffrey: You look cold.
      Tony: I am cold.

    • Tony: It's a stream. And you can't drown in a stream. You can get wet. You can get frickin' freezing, but you can't drown.
Jeffrey: You look mad! Why are you mad? We survived.
Tony: Surviving in two feet of water is not a heroic accomplishment!

    • Kate: EEEK!
      (over the monitor)
      Abby: What's wrong?
      Kate: Gibbs is driving.
Abby: I'm saying a prayer in many languages.

    • (after Gibbs has walked up to the car and sees blood all over the window, we see Tony's head slumped to his chest)
      Tony: I really liked him.
Gibbs: Yeah... yeah I can see that.

    • Tony: Kate....Kate.
      Guy: Who's Kate?
      Tony: My dog. Shih Tzu.
      Guy: What?
Tony: Long brown hair. Kind of mangy.

    • Kate: Cash. clothes and a car. Everything Tony loves.
Gibbs: Let's hope he's not heading to Vegas.

    • Gibbs: You got him?
Abby: Are you honestly asking me that?
Gibbs: No Abbs. I called to flirt.

    • This isn't the first time Don S. Davis has played a government official. He is most famous for being the head of Stargate Command in the TV series Stargate SG-1. In that show, he was promoted, and now oversees anything Stargate-related. Looks like he was demoted when he came to the Navy.

    • Tony compares the situation that him and Jeffery are in to the film The Defiant Ones (1958). In the film, two escaped convicts chained together, one white and one black, must learn to get along in order to elude capture.

    • Abby: He's a regular Mack the Knife, Gibbs.

A reference to the character from the Kurt Weill & Bertolt Brecht work, The Threepenny Opera. Macheath (Mack) is a charming, but fraudulent guy, whose favorite killing method is the knife. The song of the same name was made famous by both Louis Armstrong and Bobby Darin.
