Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock (13 August 1899 – 29 April 1980) was an English filmmaker, most widely known for his films Strangers on a Train (1951), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) and North by Northwest (1959). One of his nicknames was "The Master of Suspense" in reference to his unique style and the "twist endings" he employed in many of his works.
