Season 7 Episode 6

Outlaws and In-Laws

Aired Tuesday 8:00 PM Nov 03, 2009 on CBS

  • Trivia

    • GOOF: At the end of episode 4x18, it shows that Mike Franks' grandchild is a white boy. However in this episode, it's a girl with brown skin.

    • GOOF: When McGee explains Little Orphan Annie to Ziva, he says she has "curly red hair, no eyeballs". Little Orphan Annie did have eyeballs, what she didn't have were pupils drawn in her eyeballs.

    • TRIVIA: When the break-in occurs at Gibbs' house, one of the intruders recognizes Ziva and Tony questions how those two know each other. When he says his name is Damon Werth, Tony puts his finger to his nose and says "Oh Yeah." This small conversation is a reference to an earlier NCIS episode "Corporal Punishment" (5x10) where Werth was out of control due to a drug overdose. During the scene Werth dislocates McGee's shoulder, gives Ziva a black eye and Tony a busted nose.

    • GOOF: We see both Vance and Cortez enter Frank's house while Gibbs goes around back. Few moments later, the camera is on Gibbs and shows only Vance walking out closing the door behind him (at the left edge of the shot a picnic table). The camera then focuses on a side view of Gibbs then back to over his shoulder, but this time Cortez is standing there in front of the picnic table. In that short amount of time she couldn't have arrived out back unless she was right behind Vance and she closed the door which makes it the most logical.

    • TRIVIA: This is the first time in the series that we've ever seen any other part of Gibbs's house other than the basement.

    • GOOF: When Gibbs arrests Bell, you can see as he walks away past Cpl. Werth, that he is in-fact HOLDING the handcuffs, rather than wearing them.

  • Quotes

    • Franks: Never underestimate a mama bear when her cub's in danger.
      Shada Shakarji: That I believe.

    • Ducky: Ah, Jethro, you know we have enormous respect for you and the loyalty you exhibit to your friends.
Abby: (Puts a hand on Gibbs shoulder) Gibbs, we love you very very much.
Gibbs: What the hell is this?
      Abby: This is an intervention.

    • McGee: Are you studying to become a naturalized American citizen?
Ziva: I have to if I want to become an agent.
      McGee: Good for you, Ziva.
Tony: Wait a second. Who says we want her as an American?
Ziva: Who says you have a say?
Tony: A little thing called the costitution.
      Ziva: Oh, really? Where?
Tony: It's in there and it talks about dangerous foreign aliens stealing our precious bodily fluids.
      McGee: That's Dr. Strangelove.

    • Tony: Hello.
Franks (standing by the door with a gun): DiNozzo, you should've told me you were coming.
Tony: I called and you didn't pick up.
Franks: I'm not gonna answer the phone. I'm a fugitive!
Tony: What do you want me to do?
      Franks: Knock.
Tony: Why would I knock? There's no lock on that door.
Franks: Someone may be on the other side with a gun.
Tony: Why would somebody be standing on the other side with a gun?
Franks: Because there's no lock on the door.
Ziva: This has been very educational gentlemen.

    • Vance: What are we going to hold her on, Franks? She hasn't committed a crime.
Franks: Conspiracy to be a b*tch?

    • McGee: Do you have any idea what you're talking about?
Tony: You bet your ass I do. I'm talking about the American dream!
Ziva: What do you know about the American dream?
Tony: Well, lets see -- I'm a white male, between the age of 18 and 49, with a loud mouth and a gun. I am the American dream!

    • Bell: I tell my men, you take a swing, make sure you connect hard enough to put the other guy down.
Gibbs: Good advice. Put your hands behind your back. (Walks by Werth) You should also tell them to get a hair cut.

    • Tony: That's...
      Abby: Uh huh.
      McGee: Its no longer in...
      Abby: Uh huh.
      Ziva: This is Gibbs' boat.
Abby: This is the crime scene. It was flown here on a C 130 cargo plane along with two bodies and all the evidence and now it is mine. It is aaaaaaaaaaall mine! So I can figure out the mystery.
McGee: What mystery? Who the dead guys were?
      Ziva: Or who killed them?
Tony: Or how they ended up on the boat?
Abby: Sure, you guys should work on that. While I figure out how he got it out of the basement.

    • Franks: Lady Ziva, glad you're here! Gibbs send ya?
Ziva: We have been instructed to sit on the baby.

  • Allusions

    • Tony: Actually, I think Colonel Hogan may have a radio in the coffeepot, but the tunnel may have been filled in.

A reference to items found in Hogan's Heroes, a TV comedy about a group of POWs wreaking havoc under the nose of oblivious Germans while held in a German prison camp during World War II. The show ran from 1965 to 1971. Colonel Hogan was the American fighter pilot who was leader of the prisoners as they used the prison as their center of operations for causing problems for the Germans with disruptions, etc.

    • Tony: Ah, new homes... 'give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.'
McGee: Well, the 'wretched refuse' ended up working on this 'teaming shore'...

A reference to the poem "The New Colossus", by Emma Lazarus, engraved on the Statue of Liberty.

    • Tony: But tomorrow... tomorrow, you might win the lottery. You might slip on the right driveway, tomorrow – just like Annie song.

Refers to the song "Tomorrow" from the musical Annie, based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie. Other references to Daddy Warbucks, the short red dress, etc. are trademarks of the comic strip, the Broadway musical and ensuing movie.
