Season 5 Episode 16

Aired Tuesday 8:00 PM May 06, 2008 on CBS

  • Trivia

    • GOOF: We see a closeup shot of Tony's head while he's walking over to Hoffman's house. In the last few frames we hear footsteps as if he's jumping down from a higher elevation, though through the entire scene of his close up no sounds of him walking are heard. It could have been for the next shot showing him jumping down from the brick wall, but he was not only walking on soil, but the jumping off had their own footstep sound.

    • GOOF: At the beginning of the episode before Tony entered Hoffman's house he was talking to Gibbs and McGee on radio through his earpiece. When Tony entered Hoffman's house we can actually see his earpiece in his right ear, afterwards when he had seen the body he used his phone to call Gibbs and report that. Why didn't he just use the radio?

    • TRIVIA: When Ziva is at her desk on the phone trying to find Locke's former girlfriend, there is a shot of one of the buildings that can be seen outside. The building in focus is the actual NCIS headquarters at the Washington Navy Yard.

    • TRIVIA: When Ziva goes to see Hoffmans body in autopsy, the scene is almost exactly like the one in season 2 episode "Heart Break," where Kate also goes to visit somebody in autopsy after she shot them. Hoffman is in the same locker and Ziva stands exactly where Kate stood.

    • TRIVIA: Tony's nametag during the stakeout at the beginning of the episode reads Stan.

  • Quotes

    • Ziva: I almost died.
Gibbs: But you didn't. You have to trust your judgment, Ziva. Moment you don't, it won't be almost.

    • Tony: Abby calculated the height and the weight of the mystery man on the surveillance video: 6.1, 180. Just like Locke.
Ziva: Well, the only thing that proves is that you are jealous.
Tony: I'm concerned. Slim built, just like Locke. Of course, with your hands-on experience last night maybe you could elaborate. Saw you two leaving the bar together.
      Ziva: You followed me?
Tony: Don't flatter yourself. You do look good on the surveillance video, though. Adds about ten pounds.

    • Tony: Listen, I wasn't trying to make light of what you went through. Just trying to snap you out of your head space, ya' know?
Ziva: I have perfectly good space in my head.
Tony: Great, then let's get a drink. You'll talk, I'll listen.
      Ziva: I don't want a drink.
Tony: Okay, one drink. I'll talk, you'll listen.

    • Ziva: (when Michael attempts to pick her up) Have you been telling me the truth about your girlfriend, or are you just taking advantage of my raw, emotional state?
      Michael: Yes! (pause) And, yes.

    • Ziva: Sheket Bevakasha!
Tony: I don't know him. Borscht belt comedian?
Ziva: It is Hebrew, for shut up!
Tony: Really did affect you, huh? Have you had your mandatory session with the shrink?
      Ziva: Yes.
      Tony: Still crazy, then?

    • Gibbs: Always suspect the spouse!
      Ducky: Speaking from experience Jethro?
Abby: That's why I'm never getting married!

    • Tony: McGee said you were a wreck... (tries to mess up Ziva's hair but she takes his arm and slams it down on her desk) I was just gonna tousle your hair. Sometimes that makes you smile.

    • Tony: Sea of Love, Boss. Remember that movie. Al Pacino played a cop, sleeps with a serial killer, played by Ellen Barkin. The zany twist here is, Ziva's Pacino and Locke is Barkin, might even be bitin'.

    • Tony: (to Ziva) Guess what Locke's girlfriend's blood type is. The same blood type Abby found on the knife: B positive. Although, it's hard to be positive when the news is so negative.

    • Ziva: Uno mas, s'il vous plait!
      Michael: You're mixing your languages.
      Ziva: And my liquors.

    • Tony: (talking to Ziva) Hey, McGee thinks you're raging against the machine because you had to kill your serial killer boyfriend.

    • McGee: (talking to Abby about an image) Did you try detecting edges? (Abby stares him down) I'm detecting an edge.

    • McGee: Four boxes, four bags evidence, four bags of personal effects... I am going to be here forever!

    • Gibbs: Abbs?
      Abby: Yes Gibbs?
      Gibbs: Lose the wheels.

    • Tony: You gotta look at this objectively. The evidence says he's guilty.
      Ziva: All circumcised.
      McGee: Uh, circumstantial.
Tony: I think she knows what she's talking about.

    • Ziva (Kicking the copy machine): Die, you stupid machine!
      McGee: (sarcastically) She seems unfazed.
Tony: Those are standard Mossad-style copy machine assault tactics, McGee. She's fine.

    • Tony: Where the hell are you, McTardy? I'm still here alone with the dead body.

    • The song at the end is "Where I Stood" sung by Missy Higgins.

    • Lauren Holly is credited but doesn't appear.

  • Allusions

    • Tony: Elvis has left the building.

This is both a famous saying and a reference to the famous singer Elvis Presley. The saying was used to notify fans who were wanting an encore.

    • When Tony says "Sea of Love, Boss. Remember that movie. Al Pacino played a cop, sleeps with a serial killer, played by Ellen Barkin," In the movie Sea of Love, Ellen Barkin's character is a suspect in a serial killing case, but she turns out to be innocent in the end.

    • When she is undercover at the bar, Ziva uses the alias "Gina." This is ironic since Cote de Pablo played a character named Gina in The Education of Max Bickford.

    • Tony refers to Ziva's assault on the copier as her "raging against the machine." Rage Against the Machine is a Los Angeles based rock band noted for its eclectic blend of hip hop, heavy metal, punk and funk fused with revolutionary politics and lyrics.

    • When Tony is singing the song: "Sea Of Love", he refers to the movie of the same name starring Al Pacino.
