The government decided to construct a mecha for themselves to replace the Evangelions. During the field testing, it went haywire, ordering a self destruct sequence. NERV immediately brought in EVA 01 to stop JA from wrecking the city it was heading towards. Misato decided to enter the machine and manually prevent the self destruct from occuring. There was only a couple seconds remaining, and Misato wasn't even close to achieving her goal, but somehow, everything went back to normal. It became apparent this was all of Gendou's doings.

Even more questions are brought up. It seems like Gendou doesn't want the Evangelions to be replaced, but for what reason? This really wasn't an informative episode; at least not as contributive as the previous ones. In fact, you can watch the whole series without watching this one, and you won't be missing a thing.moreless

    • An Error in Dialogue: In the English dub, the technician tells Misato that the likelihood of the Jet Alone stopping by itself is 0.0002%. The Japanese seiyuu for the technician, and the subtitles, say that it is 0.00002%. The number should be two billionths of a percent, not two millionths. Edit

    • (Misato just makes a rather grand entrance at Shinji's school with a hard 180° turn into the parking lot, a lot of guys appear at the school windows) Guy A: Is THAT Ikari's guardian?! Guy B: What, he's got a babe like that for a guardian?! Edit
    • Toji: Hmm, Misato is just so cool. Shinji: Yeah I used to think so too, but she's such a slob, she's always embarrassing me and she never does anything but lie around the house. She's not embarrassed about it, but I am. Kensuke: You're a lucky guy. Shinji: What do you mean? Kensuke: Ikari really is just a kid, now isn't he? Toji: He sure is. Shinji: Meaning what? Kensuke: You get to see the true side of her that she doesn't allow us to see. That's very much like a family. (Shinji's first taken aback, then his face lights up as he begins to understand.) Edit
    • Head Technician: (referring to the Jet Alone) Under the present circumstances, our only viable option is to wait for it to stop itself. Misato: And how likely is that? Technician: 0.00002%. It would be an act of God! Misato: Acts of men are better than acts of God! Edit
