    Yup, we get to learn about Rei's clones at last. Whoo! This episode tells us Rei is lonely and it seems she does not want to be alone. ...HOOK UP W/ SHINJI ALREADY!!! Seriously, why does it take so friggin long for this to happen? Agh, it's so totally annoying

    Misato had continued to isolate herself from the rest of the world, and even threatening to kill all those who try to interfere with her problems. Asuka has ran away to a near by friends house. Shinji's only friends in his life that bullied him near the beginning of the series also left, along with almost everyone from Tokyo-3, fearing for their lives. Shinji has been lonely his whole until, until he met EVA. Though it was that same reason that he's alone once again, with only Rei to converse with now. But Rei had also been gone as she sacrificed herself, along with EVA unit 00 in order to save Shinji from the 16th angel. Shinji decided to isolate himself from the rest of the world as well, not even taking the comforts Misato wishes to give him.

    While all of this was happening, Gendou found himself in a very tight situation with SEELE. Everyone within the commitee are furious that the Longinus spear was lost when encountering the 15th angel, and knew it was one of the keys to their ultimate and sadistic goal. Also, Ritsuko revealed to Shinji and Misato of the dark secrets of NERV. She revealed to them the failure of the first EVA, and told Shinji that this was where her mother disappeared, and even told him he saw her disappear with his own eyes. In the next room, all the clones of Rei were showcased within containers. Rei is nothing but a container taking human form, and decided to destroy them all.

    There's more of that dark atmosphere stuff that Neon Genesis is so famous for in this episodes. Shinji, for the first time in his life, was happy. But now, he's once again the lonely person he always was his whole entire life. Misato's situation isn't really that depressing and is quite normal; I mean, who wouldn't act that way when a close friend died? Though Asuka's situation was unique, probably as depressing as Shinji's. Shinji has the problem of being isolated and alone, and likes to run away from reality. Asuka finds no meaning in life when Shinji surpassed her, and her pride, along with her soul, starts to crumble. I was really sad when Asuka was unable to control her own EVA because her sync ratio was poor due to her low self esteem and abysmal will to live.moreless

Rei (Angel): You don't want to be by yourself, correct? We are many but you are alone. You hate it don't you? Rei: That is what it is to be lonely? Rei (Angel): That is what your mind is. It is what fills your soul. You are that sorrow.

    • The Chamber of Guf is a sort of storehouse of souls, when its empty, no more people will be born (since a body with no soul is a shell). This explains the decline in population/birth rate. Heaven's Chamber of Guf is a little different (it's referred to in The End of Evangelion).
