While going through another series of synchronization tests, all three Eva's are launched when the 12th Angel makes its appearance. Conventional wapons prove useless as Unit-01 sinks into the Angel's shadow. After much research Ritsuko calculates Shinji is inside a "Sea of Durac" in the Angel, but destroying it is almost impossible. Shinji begins to slip into unconsciousness as the life support sustems run out of power.moreless
  • Really good!

Yet another great episode! So, Shinji is doing well, and he's praised by Misato. HE then seemingly becomes over-confident, and when a new Angel appears, he takes it on on himself, only to end up being sucked up by the "shadow" that the Angel produces; which makes him stuck. So, he has 16 hours down there before the life-support systems stops working. So, when his time nears an end, he suddenly finds that he is speaking to himself that is inside of him. He sorta helps him to understand some stuff about his life. And then suddenly, his mother; or his mother's soul to be more accurate, appears.
The Eva unit then suddenly breaks out of the giant sphere, acting like a living creature. This further arose my suspicions that the Eva Units are actually much more than just simple mechanical creations. And the talk between Risoku and Gendo helped on it as well.
And the small scene at the hospital at the end of the episode was cool. I liked it a lot.
    A great episode! 9.2/10moreless
  • Too much confidence leads to a long road of psychological lectures.

The latest results of the Harmonics test shows that Shinji had surpassed his other teammate's synchronizing level. The feeling of being the best got to him, and his act of cockyness leads himself to another dimension thanks to the 12th angel. During his time here, the spirit of his Evangelion starts pulling out memories of his past, and even questioning the actions he has made before, such as why he hated his father, or if he ever did. This was the first step of Shinji becoming one of TV's most tragic characters, and this episode does a good job of breaking everything down.

Nearly half a day later, right before NERV was about to use their N2 mines amongst the Angel, Shinji and his Evangelion rips open from within the Angel, making for a horrible sight for everyone to see. Soon after, everyone questions if the EVA's are really on their side. Asuka is even more shocked to realize that she's piloting such a destructive force. For Misato, she's simply happy to see Shinji in good condition.moreless
