  • When one of Wolfe's freelance detectives is arrested for murder, the genius puts Archie and his other freelancers on the case. The offer of fifty thousand dollars on top if Wolfe solves it quietly is too good to resist.moreless

    9.0
Despite everything the same in the brownstone home and office of Wolfe, the clothing of the other characters (apart from Wolfe)and the setting has all moved from the forties into the swinging sixties. Things are funkier with brightly-clad women working in nightclubs dancing in little more than bikinis, and female liberation walking through Wolfe's door. Still, in the changing world it is nice to see sturdy old Wolfe usin his brain to solve the case an sending Archie out as emissary into the wilds of New York.

Although lighter in places than some episodes due to some verbal sparring between the main characters and also the chorus girl, Jackie, this is mainly a serious story about one of 'Wolfe's famly' facing being sent away for murder, and the clues still have to be uncovered to lead to the mystery of why and who killed Isabel, the doxy. A nice touch is, of course, how Wolfe manages to earn his fee on the side by keeping the murdered girl's sugar-daddy out of the spotlight. Some would say it is a terrible thing he does to the real killer, some would say he had no idea what the consequences would be... but we know better. Wolfe is not a dunce.

A good episode, close to the book, and it even manages a musical number in the middle.moreless
