    • Nestor is a young donkey who is constantly teased for his long ears. However he soon learns he will be needed for a noble task.

This Christmas special does not rank with such classics as "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," but it is pleasant and does feature a heart warming story and some good music. Speaking of Rudolph, this special does have many elements similar to that classic tale. An animal hated because he is different than everybody else. He goes out on his own and then is soon needed to help "save" Christmas. That aside this special is still very well done and does have some songs that you may remember. It's not the best, but it's good.moreless
    • Unoriginal, lame, reptitive, and rather depressing

This special did start off with potential but it fell short simply because it is too simular to Rakin/Bass other Christmas classic Rudolph. A misfit is constantly harassed for being different over something he can't help but somehow saves Christmas. Yeah that sounds totally familiar. You just replaced the red nosed reindeer with a long eared donkey, with a cherub to accompany him rather than an elf or prospector, and changed the setting from the North Pole to Judea and Bethlehem. How lazy. (It also sounds like the Disney film Dumbo. Couldn't they come up with something more original or at least put in more effort for plot and character development. Still I have to give them points for keeping to the real story and meaning of Christmas but I still don't recommend it. I mean even at the end after Nestor aids the holy family to Bethlehem he goes back to his tormentors who are now called his 'friends'. Did they somehow see the error in their ways and change? Never shown. Heck how were they to know about the special service/mission Nestor performed? Even Olaf threw him out saying that he didn't care if Nestor froze to death. It's like there's a deleted scene. I would think that he would much rather be the beloved steed and animal companion to the Son of God and his earthly family than return to those who bullied him. This is really nothing special. Rakin/Bass could've done so much better but didn't. They wasted a bunch of time, effort, and resources to this lame and unneeded special. This is one of their first signs of their decline. It does have some charm but it is also dull and depressing especially after Nestor's mother dies trying to keep him warm.moreless
