Uncle Lumpy's Cabin is a children's television series that originally aired on WABC-TV Channel 7 in New York City. The 30-minute episodes were broadcast on weekdays at 5:00 pm from August 1951 to November 1951. The primary purpose of the show is to teach traditional family values to children through skits, stories and songs. The main character on the show is Uncle Lumpy, played by Hugh Brannum. The show features Brannum narrating stories, usually about a child named Little Orley who lives on a farm. These stories typically contain a moral directed toward children. Some episodes feature live animals, and Brannum also supplies the music on the show. He was a professional jazz musician earlier in his career who played a variety of stringed instruments, especially the upright bass. Brannum essentially plays himself as Uncle Lumpy, and wrote many of his own lines. He also played the very similar character of Mr. Green Jeans on Captain Kangaroo from 1955 to 1984.moreless
