This six-part series, developed by Framestore Ltd. and the BBC, follows the life of Earth's greatest life forms through their reign over the Mesozoic world, from their humble beginning in the late Triassic, to their fall in the Cretaceous. Along the way, we are also witnessed to their reptilian cousins that ruled the seas and air during this fantastic time in Earth's history. Though one must keep in mind that the stories are mere speculation, the filmmakers enlisted the aide of scientists to provide them with as many facts as possible for this series. Walking with Dinosaurs scored the highest ratings for a cable series ever when it aired on the Discovery Channel. The series won an Annie, two BAFTAs, a Broadcasting Press Guild award, three Emmys Awards for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming More Than One Hour), Outstanding Sound Editing in Non-Fiction Program & Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special (out of six nominations), the Peabody Award, three Royal Television Society awards, a TV Quick Award, a Television and Radio Industries Club Award, and a Young Artist Award. Since this series aired, it has spawned several follow-up series, including The Ballad of Big Al, Walking with Beasts, Walking with Cavemen, and at least three specials hosted by naturalist Nigel Marven.moreless

Secrets of World War II is a series that takes you beyond what you already know about World War II. You know about Churchill, Eisenhower and Stalin and how they formed a coalition to defeat Germany, Italy and Japan. They were the "faces" of World War II, and rightfully so. But World War II was more than about them. It was about violent beach landings in France, desert warfare in Africa and nautical combat in the Pacific. It was about people from every walk of life, from ordinary situations, doing extraordinary things. In the trenches, in the cockpit and behind the wheel, people you might have known from the grocery store, lumber mill or the school board fought, bled and helped win the war. Secrets of World War II tells you their stories. See how their battles fit into the overall story of the war, how their small victories led to larger ones. Each hour-long episode gives you in-depth information not just on why they made the decisions they did, but how those decisions ultimately helped win World War II.moreless

Michael Palin: Around the World in 80 Days is a travel series developed by the BBC that chronicles Monty Python actor and notable comedian Michael Palin as he takes up the task of Phileas Fogg, Jules Verne’s hero of his classic novel Around the World in Eighty Days, in an endeavor to travel around the world in eighty days. In true Victorian fashion, Palin sets out to follow Fogg’s travel route without taking the easy way out by traveling via aircraft. He sets off from London to only be stopped by one of the many roadblocks in Palin’s journey. From Italian railway strikes to missing train and ferry connections to a very uncomfortable case of traveler’s diarrhea, he continues to strive forward in order to clean up the city of Venice, befriend the crew of an Indian sailboat, getting a shave by a blind barber, working as deckhands on a Yugoslavian freighter, and being attacked by a cockatoo. A wonderful real-life adaptation of Verne’s classic, Micahel Palin: Around the World in 80 Days shows the world in a lovely and comical light. Michael Palin followed the trip with a book detailing the experience completely from his perspective without cut scenes.moreless
