Following the success of the TV series Sister Wendy's Odyssey and the book of the same name, PBS began broadcasting Sister Wendy's Grand Tour. The show was about how she travels through 10 of Europe's great cities looking at its finest and most artistic arts. Throughout Europe she sees Goya in Madrid, Donatello in Florence, Van Gogh in Amsterdam, and several more famous artists. For some paintings and sculptures, she describes why the artist made it and what they used to create it. Most of the artwork she looks at are breathtaking and is almost hard to take your eyes from. Throughout all her description, she doesn't tell why it's good or bad, but tells why she loves it. This show was purely made because of Wendy's love for art. This is an enchanting art-loving show.moreless

Michael Palin: Around the World in 80 Days is a travel series developed by the BBC that chronicles Monty Python actor and notable comedian Michael Palin as he takes up the task of Phileas Fogg, Jules Verne’s hero of his classic novel Around the World in Eighty Days, in an endeavor to travel around the world in eighty days. In true Victorian fashion, Palin sets out to follow Fogg’s travel route without taking the easy way out by traveling via aircraft. He sets off from London to only be stopped by one of the many roadblocks in Palin’s journey. From Italian railway strikes to missing train and ferry connections to a very uncomfortable case of traveler’s diarrhea, he continues to strive forward in order to clean up the city of Venice, befriend the crew of an Indian sailboat, getting a shave by a blind barber, working as deckhands on a Yugoslavian freighter, and being attacked by a cockatoo. A wonderful real-life adaptation of Verne’s classic, Micahel Palin: Around the World in 80 Days shows the world in a lovely and comical light. Michael Palin followed the trip with a book detailing the experience completely from his perspective without cut scenes.moreless

Michael Palin: New Europe is the BBC travel series where Monty Python alum Michael Palin takes us along with him on his globe-trotting adventures. Michael's travels in New Europe show a world that has changed greatly since the collapse of the Iron Curtain and the end of the Cold War. Most of the perception of Europe focuses on Western Europe, forgetting that the countries in Eastern Europe are new to the western world. They are new nations with new governments trying to find their place in the post-Soviet world. Michael journeys on a voyage of discovery in places that were once forbidden, enjoying the new freedom to roam unhindered of places in his own continent which he previously couldn't visit. The series had seven episodes where Palin visits 20 countries, seeing places like Moldova, Estonia, Slovakia, Serbia, Albania, the Republic of Macedonia, and Herzegovina. Palin also released a companion book called New Europe, documenting the trip with photographs by Basil Pao.moreless
