With the first episode being broadcast on November 11, 1953, Panorama is the BBC's flagship current affairs programme and the longest-running public affairs TV programme in the world. Panorama's job is to investigate and uncover stories about Britain and the world. The range of stories that the programme covers is wide but the guiding principles for Panorama are always the same:
    • To make programmes with authority which make waves and withstand scrutiny.
    • To report the world we live in with a depth of understanding often missing in many other programmes.
    • To scrutinise the use and abuse of power, both public and private.
    • To get to stories first.
    • To make the stories we tell relevant, accessible and engaging for the audience.
    • To treat fairly the people with whom we deal.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com This ten episode program was based on ten short stories written by Agatha Christie but with wide-ranging themes. Some were romances, several had supernatural themes, and a couple were youthful adventures. They were set in the England of the nineteen twenties and thirties, and much care was taken to present them as authentically as possible, with great attention to detail. Their common link was that all came from the talented pen of Agatha Christie, all were entertaining, and each program was carefully crafted and well cast, with many of the best of Britain's actors represented.moreless

The Imaginatively Titled Punt and Dennis show featured Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis in a vast array of studio gags, filmed sketches and parodies of famous TV dramas such as the X-Files, Baywatch and ER. Each show would focus on a theme, be it crime, holidays, sports etc. and would have amusing insights into each subject which carried on into most parts of the show. The show sported an array of characters (mostly performed by Hugh Dennis) who would appear in either their own sketches, or would regularly turn up without warning in the studio, the filmed sketches and even the drama parodies. Characters Kurt Wenker German tourist from hell who was always out to steal 'puny British boys' girlfriends. Right Hon. Hector Sleazy MP Scandal-riddled member of parliament who gave long non-sensical speeches and constantly insisted he wouldn't be resigning. BBC (ended 1992)
"Black holes and Quasars" ...Watt On Earth was a short lived children's series as part of 'Children's BBC' and written by the 'Doctor Who' writers Jane & Pip Baker. The show starred 'Watt' (Garth Napier Jones) as an alien who came to earth to escape his evil uncle. Watt was heir to the throne on his planet and his uncle even sent his top henchman 'Jemjemah' to follow Watt to earth and terminate him. Watt landed in the English town on Haxton and be-friended 'Shaun Ruddock' (Tom Brodie) who managed to keep Watt's presence in the house a secret throughout the whole shows run. Shaun's parents ran the local newspaper the Haxton weekly and think their son is a bit of a oddball. Watt was over 300 years of age but in his human form looked early 20's. He also hadn't mastered his alien powers for starters he had back to front ears (Series 1) and upon his return to Haxton (Series 2) failed again this time the ears came out Green. He also had to ability to transanimateobjectify?? = turn himself into animate objects, but he could never get it right Eg, A clock that ran back-wards or square golf ball. That's what drove the comedy along his odd tastes in earth food. Eg Ketchup and corn flakes or Dog food and whipped cream on toast. The show ran for 2 series of 12 episodes and has always remained in my head. I had about 20 of the episodes on tape for donkeys years but wiped them several years back. Therefore Ive done a few web searches but a lot of this information is from memory so I deserve points for that don't I LOL...moreless

Her assistants are Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, who play the part of inept, star-struck assistants. Saunders and Lumley are also successful comedians in their own right during this series. The first episode features an interview with Zsa-Zsa Gabor. Saunders appears pregnant and attempts to serve coffee to Gabor and Wax, while trying not to stare at Gabor.
