    Coupling

    Coupling

    BBC Three (ended 2004)
Two's company, three's a crowd... so what do you do with six?
On average, men and women think about sex every six seconds. Shorten that to every second, and you've got Coupling.
It's more than just a one night stand!

When a couple gets together, it's never just the two of them - they also bring baggage - and Susan (Sarah Alexander) and Steve (Jack Davenport) are no exception. Their baggage is a crowd of best friends and exes who talk about all aspects of sex and relationships on their never-ending quest to find true love. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps...

Susan Walker is a beautiful go-getter with an uninhibited attitude who used to date Patrick Maitland (Ben Miles), the sextet's charismatic, cocky player, London's king of conquests - a guy who's just too cool to worry about being smart. Attractive Sally Harper (Kate Isitt) is a beauty therapist who is Susan's unashamedly vain best friend, who aggressively battles aging with heavy doses of moisturizer and men - including Patrick.

Meanwhile, Steve Taylor, while getting together with Susan, can't seem to shake loose from his vivacious and slightly vacuous ex-girlfriend Jane Christie (Gina Bellman), a woman supremely confident in her ability to seduce anyone of either sex, and who refuses to be dumped unless she's the one doing the dumping.

Jeff Murdoch (Richard Coyle) is Steve's "porn buddy" who is, in equal parts, obsessed and bewildered by actual sex; charming in his way, but with an uncanny ability to say the wrong thing at the worst possible time. He works in the same office as Susan, with whom he had a disastrous and unsuccessful one-night fling. After Coyle left the series, a new character was introduced in season 4 as his replacement, Oliver (Richard Mylan).

Coupling has been honoured with the prestigious Silver Rose of Montreux, Best TV Comedy Award, and is recent winner at the 2003 British Comedy Awards.

Coupling comes from writer/creator Steven Moffat, producer Sue Vertue, and executive producer Beryl Vertue. The show is directed by Martin Dennis.moreless

    Monkey Dust

    Monkey Dust

    BBC Three (ended 2005)
A cutting edge comedy animation painting a fabulously warped satirical view of Britain ... Welcome to your very own urban nightmare - a nocturnal world populated by the sad, the lonely and the emotionally crippled on the wrong side of sunlight. Its' satirical targets range across the whole spectrum of Cruel Britannia from dysfunctional families to heartless government departments. A piece of genuinely brilliant programming. Damn, it feels good to be treated like a grown-up for once. Monkey Dust alone has justified the existence of BBC Three. Dark, compelling and utterly unmissable television. The Observer The smartest thing on television by a million crooked light years. Brilliant satire and crude rudery of the highest order. This is where you go when you graduate from South Park. A.A. Gill The Sunday Times Monkey Dust is a nimble, itchy triggered little guerilla unit of an animated sketch show. It offers the first plausible answer to the question, "What is BBC3 for?" It's also a definitively dystopian portrait of the UK, far more effective in that capacity than Little Britain, which is often funny, but stretches any claim to be more than character comedy. The simple device of farming out strands to different animators keeps Monkey Dust visually fresh, and allows writers Harry Thompson and Shaun Pye to stage jokes that would be impossible in live action. Wish-fulfilment, loathing and the desire for revenge. Three staples of humour. The Mail on Sunday (Yes, that Mail on Sunday) Possibly the best programme of all time. Q Magazine January 2005: Series Three sees the return of old favourites such as Ivan Dobsky the falsely-imprisoned mass-murderer; Omar, Abdul and Shafiq the would-be terrorists from West Bromwich; and the Paedofinder-General now booked for a regular slot. New characters include Fran Chappell an ordinary mum who uses her daughter's disappearance as the springboard to launch a showbiz career, and Noodles the lab rabbit who bounces back like Tom and Jerry from every unpleasant experiment.moreless
