Unsympathetic to the precious pomposity of the rock and pop industry, 'Buzzcocks' takes a sledgehammer to the delicate egos of the biggest and most famous names in music - often whilst they are guests on the programme. The scathing wit of Mark Lamarr and later Simon Amstell, has literally caused guests to walk off the show. From 2009 to 2013, the show was presented by different guest hosts each week. In July 2014 it was announced that Rhod Gilbert would become the show's third regular host from the 28th series onwards. In 2013, the BBC aired a series called What a Load of Buzzcocks which is narrated by Blur's Alex James and looks at the best bits of a certain year of music including moments from 'Buzzcocks'.moreless

Sure, Rob Brydon is a well-known comedian but he's also a father and husband - a normal man. He shares his life experiences in a series of stand-ups in front of a live studio audience. He mixes his standup anecdotes with audience interaction (at which he is very good). This is followed by a segment with the week's guest which is then followed by Rob talking and singing with that week's musicial guest. Since Rob is a reasonably good musician himself, these segments are fun and often quite funny. The second half of the program features a guest standup comedian in a short set. Rob then sits back down and asks his main guest questions supplied through Twitter and from the studio audience. The show ends with a number by the musical guest. Program six in the first series is a "best of" program, but is handled with additional humor as a silver-haired Rob flies in on a jet pack to "celebrate his 100th birthday" with a retrospective on his first series. Good clips from the first five shows plus some new, un-broadcast materials keep this fun and interesting.moreless

Documentary-maker Roy Mallard makes fly-on-the-wall films about Britain’s unsung professionals - 'people like us'. The fact that he's not too sensitive to the mood of the people he interviews, is linguistically challenged and struggles to blend into the background mean he more often that not, brings out the more ridiculous aspects of his subjects' character.moreless
