Lonesome Dove is a western television miniseries based on the novel of the same name by Larry McMurty that originally aired on the CBS network in 1989. The series revolves around two well known former Texas Rangers, Captain Augustus McCrae (Robert Duvall) and Captain Woodrow F. Call (Tommy Lee Jones) running the Hat Creek Cattle Company and Livery Emporium in the town of Lonesome Dove. McCrae is a well known womanizer but has also been in love with Clara (Anjelica Houston) for many years. McCrae has often proposed marriage to Clara, but she always rejects him. Clara is also jealous of the time Call has spent with McCrae. Call, unlike McCrae, is a workaholic who has a son named Newt (Rick Schroder) born from a prostitute named Maggie whom Call loved. Call refuses to accept Newt as his son, but Newt works with Call and McCrae trading horses. Also working with Call and McCrae is a man by the name of Joshua Deets (Danny Glover) who is a former partner of theirs from their Ranger days. One day another former partner named Jake Spoon (Robert Urich) arrives in Lonesome Dove on the run from the law. Spoon speaks of settling in Montana and Call is drawn to it. McCrae is not so sure until the promise of meeting up with Clara once again is presented. Call and McCrae gather a crew of nearly all the men in Lonesome Dove to set off for Montana.moreless

Joining the ride is Clara, (Doc's wife from Back To The Future Part III) Jules and Verne (their sons) Einstein the dog and Jennifer (Marty's girlfriend). And apparently there's a Tannen in every time as relatives of Biff keep popping up, and creating conflict. Mary Steenburgen and Thomas F. Wilson reprise their roles from the movies. During live portions of the show, Christopher Lloyd reprised his role as Doc Brown and was joined by Bill Nye, who conducted experiments that were used in the show. Thousands of years ago, Egyptian Queen Hatchupset was given an amulet by her Royal Wizard. This amulet empowered the queen with the powers of the goddess Isis; to command the elements of sky and earth. Flash forward to present time (1970's that is) young science teacher Andrea Thomas found this lost amulet while on an archaeological dig. She found she was heir to the "Secrets of Isis." By bearing the necklace that had the amulet, and calling out the phrase "OH MIGHTY ISIS," Andrea was transformed into Isis. As Isis, she could "soar as the falcon soars, run with the speed of gazelles, and command all the elements of sky and earth." In order to invoke her powers, she had to recite incantations. Her most famous incantation - "Oh zephyr winds which blow on high, lift me now so I can fly" - assisted her in taking flight. She also had control of animals, fire, water, etc. Her powers were usually used to help teach young people she came in contact with, a moral lesson. Her associates, Rick Mason, Cindy Lee, Dr. Barnes, and later, Rennie Carroll, were oblivious to her dual identity. Isis was seen as the female counterpart to Shazam (Captain Marvel). They had a few crossover episodes to each other's shows.moreless

Guns Of Paradise is the sequel series of the 1988-90 television western, Paradise.
Paradise centered around grizzled gunfighter Ethan Allan Cord, who assumed custody of his late sister's four orphaned children. Ethan's sister, Lucy Cord Carroll, died in St. Louis in the 1890s and her children traveled to the West Coast to live with their uncle in Paradise, California.
Cord attempted to change his life by becoming a rancher and raising the children in a converted farmhouse he rented from the town banker. The oldest of the children, and only girl, was 13-year-old Claire Carroll, who shared some of Ethan's supervisory duties, especially while he was away. Her brothers were Joseph, 11; Ben, 9; and George, 5.
Despite attempting to settle down with his new brood, Ethan was often hired on odd jobs which utilized his gunfighting skills. Amelia Lawson, the banker from whom Ethan rented the farmhouse, became his romantic occupation. Ethan's best friend, Native American John Taylor, had a knack for being in the right spot at the right time, usually to help Ethan out of a jam.
Guns Of Paradise finds Ethan giving up on farming and taking the position of town Marshall, sometimes to the chagrin of the citizens and always a negative to outlaws.moreless

This unsuccessful and now totally forgotten "family hour" drama was MTM's first 60-minute series. It focused on the assignments of photojournalist Pete Karras, who somewhat improbably moved around the U.S. in a custom-built motorhome complete with his two sons. (You'd think he's be beaten out by competitors who could fly to assignments without their families.) The premise was, of course, just an excuse for a disguised anthology drama like The Fugitive or Route 66, in which the main characters would enter a new town and a new dramatic situation each week.moreless

The Adventures of Batman is the late 60's animated series that chronicled the dark knight's escapades in a lighthearted way (as apposed to the darker film-noir style of the 90's animated series). The show used the voices of Olan Soule as the masked crusader, and famous radio personality and voice actor Casey Kasem as his boy wonder sidekick Robin. This series was best known for its pioneering use of realistic animation, by drawing over live action. Often paired with Superman Cartoons on CBS, each episode ran around 12 minutes long and portrayed the superhero outsmart and fight off an endless slew of super villains that threaten the good people of Gotham. After being orphaned as a child by an armed mugger, billionaire's son Bruce Wayne uses his great smarts and bountiful resources to create a masked vigilante alter ego known only as Batman. He vows to protect the metropolis city of Gotham from the criminals that overrun it and seek its control at any price.moreless

"Updating the classic 1960's action series The Fugitive (1963) with the thrills and high-tech style of the 1993 Oscar-winning hit movie, "The Fugitive" returns to television with the riveting tale of Dr. Richard Kimble (Tim Daly), an innocent man accused of murdering his beloved wife. Adrift in a sea of strangers in strange locations, Kimble, on the hunt for the one-armed man who actually committed the crime, desperately tries to avoid being captured by Lt. Philip Gerard (Mykelti Williamson, "The New WKRP in Cincinnati"), who always seems to be only two steps behind. From week to week, Kimble searches city after city for the elusive killer whose capture would finally allow him to prove his innocence and return to his former life. In constant flight in his quest for justice, Kimble touches many lives, but the encounters are ended as suddenly as they have begun when the fugitive is forced to escape to yet another city." - CBS press release. CBS premiered the much-hyped new action series on its Friday night lineup, which included fellow action series "Nash Bridges" and newcomer "CSI." Many predicted the new version of "The Fugitive" would become one of CBS's greatest hits, but the show only earned decent ratings for its first episode (curiously, everybody thought "CSI" was too morbid and wouldn't live to see a pickup, and it turned out to be the big hit "The Fugitive" was supposed to be). From then on ratings fell to an underexpected average, and eventually CBS decided to revitalize its Thursday nights with ratings magnet "CSI," bumping Dick Van Dyke's "Diagnosis Murder" to Fridays, where it took "The Fugitive"'s old time slot. Even with a good lead-in the ratings didn't rise (the show aired opposite "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," which at the time drew huge numbers, giving the show a push to death). At the end of the season, CBS decided to cancel the entire lineup. At least they had the decency to show the series finale - but not to tell the producers not to write in a cliffhanger. Astronauts Alan Virdon and Pete Burke are thrown 1100 years forward in time to 3085 AD to find evolved apes have become the dominant species and humans their apathetic slaves. Feared by the ape authorities, their plight turns the head of a promising young chimpanzee named Galen, who adopts the heretical idea that maybe humans aren't a lower species and can co-exist with apes as equals. As the three struggle to survive life on the run, a bond of friendship grows between them like an intricate tapestry woven right before our eyes, a multi-threaded miracle born of compassion, respect, and the desire to replace fear with understanding. The series is loosely tied to the original movie series, reusing some footage and the ape makeup (albeit on a lower budget). Although it only lasted 14 episodes and spawned four paperback adaptations and 5 stitched-together TV movies, it retains a strong fan following and the occasional resurgence of interest with the 2001 remake of the original movie and the occasional SciFi Channel marathon or late-night cable showing of the TV movies.moreless
