Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! premiered on September 13, 1969. This cartoon introduced four kids and a dog named Scooby-Doo. These kids were Daphne Blake, Freddy Jones, Velma Dinkley, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, and their mascot. They traveled around in a green van known as "The Mystery Machine" and solved many scary mysteries along the way. In 1972, this show became The New Scooby-Doo Movies, which were hour-long episodes in which the gang teamed up with famous animated stars and celebrites to solve mysteries. This format aired until 1973. Scooby-Doo was so popular to Hanna-Barbara that it spawned many different cartoon series throughout the 1970's and the early 1980's. These shows were as follows: The Scooby-Doo Show, a revamped format of this show, Scooby and Scrappy-Doo, which introduced the character Scrappy-Doo, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, and the last incarnation, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, which featured the cast as kids. After more than a decade-long absence of original weekly shows, a new series, What's New Scooby-Doo?, began airing in September 2002. Theme Song Lyrics Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987)

This version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the most distinctive from its MIRAGE comic origins. It thrived more on humor instead of a dark attitude, especially in earlier seasons. Its creativity and bizarre humor made it something in the late '80s and early '90s something that had never been done before, so it drew in fans and grew to syndication on USA's Cartoon Express and new episodes would be aired weekends on CBS in late 1990.

Four turtles fall into the sewers and are befriended by Hamato Yoshi, a Japanese man who fled from New York and had nowhere to live but in the sewers. He was framed by his enemy, Oroku Saki, in a plot to kill the sensei. One day he sees a strange green glow which transforms the four turtles into human-like creatures. Hamato (now Master Splinter) changes into a giant rat from the green glow and teaches the turtles the skills of the ninja as they team up with Channel 6 news reporter April O'Neil to battle against Yoshi's archenemy Shredder and Krang, an alien warlord from Dimension X. There would be other enemies as well. Season 3 gave new opportunities outside the Shredder storyline, such as Don Turtelli, the Rat King, and Leatherhead. Especially in later CBS episodes, where there were many episodes without the Turtles battling Shredder, enemies such as Pinky McFingers and other minor recurring villains would fight the Turtles as well.

After Season 7, the show took a dark turn towards the action storyline that made it more of a mainstream American adventure cartoon as Dregg and other characters were created and gave the Turtles quite a zealous collection of adventures before they finally faded out in 1996.

In the U.K, TMNT was broadcast under the name Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles due to fears that the "ninja" part of the logo was too extreme a word to use on British television at the time.moreless

Tom and Jerry

Tom and Jerry was originally the very first, and earliest of the Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. It went through many phases and took place from anywhere from inside a house, to anywhere in outer space. The show was of course, about a cat and a mouse, and several other characters. The two never really talked, even though they do sing, yell, gasp, laugh, count, or say "Aha!!"; and that several other characters spoke more often. They would later end up in several TV series, and also in a few movies, however many would say that they didn't like the way the movies turned out. All of the episodes were distributed by MGM. Here's more info about the show in general: Pilot Episodes: The Pilot Episode was called "Puss Gets The Boot" and was also the first one with Mammy in it. Tom looked very different and was called Jasper. It was produced by Harman-Ising Productions. Fred Quimby: Fred Quimby was the Producer of Tom & Jerry for many years. He is also the Producer of Tex Avery's Cartoons. Tom's fur would eventually become blue. CinemaScope: These cartoons had more people in them. There were narrators, and many conversations between the adults. Lewis Marshall became an Animation Director, and Hanna-Barbera were the Producers. Rembrandt: Only seeing the older Tom & Jerry cartoons, and not having enough information on the show, Ted Pierce, Gene Deich, and William L. Snyder and the rest of the crew had trouble in producing their episodes of Tom & Jerry. Sib Tower 12 Incorporated: One of the last producers of Tom & Jerry, this version has the famous opening with the yellow background and the red letters (except for the 5 letters O and J) where Tom hisses and Jerry waves. The producer was Chuck Jones, and the cartoons look ahead of their time. There were several new characters, including a yellow bulldog, and Tom's Girlfriend, The Shark, Jerry's Dog, and several robots where Tom was a security operator at a cheese mine. Other people that worked on the show were Les Goldman, Maurice Noble, Michael Maltese, Tom Ray, Earl Jonas, Lewis Marshall, Eugene Poddany, Bill Lava, Dean Elliott, Carl Brandt, Mel Blanc, June Foray, Abe Levitow, Ben Washam, Don Foster, and Walter Bien. They would later do several Dr. Seuss cartoons along with Depatie-Freeling Entertainment, the Cricket seties, Duck Dodgers, and many other Award Winning shows. Filmation: Many years later, Filmation attempted to produce Tom & Jerry. It was a TV show called The Tom & Jerry Comedy Show. It seemed to look like all the Tom & Jerry cartoons in the 1950s and 1960s. They also aired and produced some other MGM cartoons, like the ones that are directed by Tex Avery. The episodes of The Tom & Jerry Comedy Show are mentioned here. TV: The New Tom and Jerry Show and The Tom and Jerry Kids Show: HB's TV versions. Neither lasted long, but several people still remember Them. They weren't that violent either. They were about the characters trying to solve everyday problems. Tom & Jerry Kids had other charachers as kids that were also produced by Fred Quimby, Including Tex Avery's Cartoon Characters. Garfield & Friends

Based on the highly popular comic strip by Jim Davis, Garfield and Friends was considered the best long-running cartoon on CBS. This Saturday morning series featured the adventures of that lovable, hungry fat cat Garfield, his yellow dog friend Odie, and their cartoonist bachelor master Jon Arbuckle. Garfield cartoons shared the spot with a new cartoon series created for this series called U.S. Acres (also based on a comic strip by Jim Davis). U.S. Acres was a cartoon about a group of barnyard animals who run a farm. The leader was Orson Pig, the bookish and perceptive pig. His friends had many different qualities: Wade Duck was the scaredy-cat duck who runs away from everything, no kidding; Booker was a crafty little chick whose main goal was to chase a worm, and his brother Sheldon was nothing more than an egg with two legs sticking out; Roy Rooster was the practical joking rooster who puts everyone in trouble with his jokes; and two sheep, Bo and Lanolin, were always bickering with each other about nearly everything. Bo being a nice guy and Lanolin a cruel girl. Each episode, they had to protect the farm from Orson's big bad brothers and a crafty weasel. Before this series, Garfield cartoons were shown as yearly specials on CBS, and the specials were so great that CBS decided to turn Garfield into a cartoon series. In the first season, each 30-minute episode was packed with three 8-minute shorts, two Garfield shorts and one U.S. Acres short. In the second season, Garfield and Friends expanded to an hour, consisting of four Garfield cartoons and two U.S. Acres cartoons. It remained at this format until the show ended in 1994. 'Garfield:The Movie' was released on June 11,2004 & so far has made over $75 million at the box office. Thanks to the success of the movie, 20th Century Fox is now working on a CGI/live action movie version of 'Alvin & The Chipmunks' & coming to theathers on December 25th is 'Fat Albert', which is of course a live action version of the classic 1974-1984 cartoon 'Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids'. Pee-wee's Playhouse stars Pee-wee Herman (played by Paul Reubens, voice of Lock in The Nightmare Before Christmas) and a crazy cast of characters from all over Puppetland. Each episode usually teaches a lesson to the viewer such has how to stay healthy or how to make friends. Pee-wee's Playhouse is aimed at children but can be enjoyed by all ages with its great sense of humor. For example, each episode has a secret word. Strawberry Shortcake and her friends first entered pop culture as characters in a series of greeting cards. Then, in 1980, the first of six annual Strawberry Shortcake TV specials aired, firmly embedding the titular heroine in the minds and hearts of eighties children everywhere. The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show

Charlie Brown, his dog Snoopy, and the whole Peanuts gang enter the television world in their very own television series shown weekly, followed by comic strips drawn and written by creator, Charles M. Schulz. With the help of Bill and Lee Melendez, these wonderful comic characters have very different and strange personalities that make each scene very humorous and unique. Focuses on the anxieties and joys of childhood as expressed by an ensemble cast of children who often seem wise beyond their years. Based on the famous comic strip. Character Guide Charlie Brown - Charlie Brown is a boy who has a dull life, and is constantly worrying about everything. He loves playing baseball, but his team never wins a game. There are some strange things happening in his life such as the attitude and actions of his dog, Snoopy and a kite-devouring tree that swallows all of the kites that he tries to fly. He is referred to a "blockhead" or "wishy-washy" and always puts himself down. Whenever he tries to kick a football that Lucy is holding down, she pulls it away, and Charlie goes flying in the air. She also helps Charlie Brown for five cents at her Psychiatric Booth. He has a little sister named Sally. Snoopy - Snoopy is an imaginative little beagle that lives under his owner, Charlie Brown. He creates daydreams while he sleeps on his doghouse. He is determined to finish writing a suspenseful story, while helping his friend, Woodstock and staying away from "the cat next door." For almost everyday, all Snoopy does is eat and sleep. He makes up characters that he pursues himself such as Joe Cool, The World War I Flying Ace, The Flash Beagle, a Vulture, etc. Lucy Van Pelt - A rough girl who is always bossy, crabby, and selfish. She likes bossing her little brother, Linus around, complaining that he always carries his blanket around. She is always angry - arguing and yelling. But her sweet side is shown whenever she is talking to Shroeder, who she likes very much. Schroeder idolizes Beethoven, and his piano. He always stays at his piano, playing music for others to enjoy. Linus Van Pelt - Linus, a intellectual boy who speaks of philosophical revelations and solutions to problems using complex details. He constantly holds a blanket, which he refers to as a "security blanket." This wise boy always stands beside his best friend, Charlie Brown, and is always under the command of his big sister, Lucy. Although he is very intelligent, he still believes that there is the Great Pumpkin, who rises out of the pumpkin patch and gives children gifts. Peppermint Patty - Patty is simply amazing at playing baseball, but is receiving D-minuses in school. Sort of a tomboy, Peppermint constantly sleeps during class. Marcie, who calls Patty, "sir" always follows Patty around, doing whatever Patty says and is always looking out for her "boss." Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids

Live action bumpers featuring Bill Cosby were set around animated episodes of Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids, a series about a group of urban adolescents growing up in a Philadelphia neighborhood. The show was based on Cosby's '60s stand up comedy monologues about his childhood. The episodes revolved around the daily life lessons learned by Albert and his friends. Topics ranged from social issues to personal introspection and were blended with humor and music. Among the many great characters that inhabited Fat Albert's world were Rudy, Mushmouth, Donald, Bill, Weird Harold and Russell. In 1979 the show was re-titled The New Fat Albert Show and featured a new segment called The Brown Hornet, a send-up of superhero cartoons starring a larger-than-life African-American crime fighter in outer space. In 1984, the show was syndicated and renamed The Adventures of Fat Albert and the Cosby kids. It ended the same year. Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids enjoyed one of the longest careers in Saturday morning cartoon history. There are plans to release the whole series on DVD over the course of 2005. Wacky Races

Wacky Races was one of the best yet shortest running Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. Each show was 30 minutes long with 2 races each. Every episode Dick Dastardly and Muttley (The Mean Machine) would desperately try to win by setting traps that always backfired. Dick and Muttley appeared in "Dastardly & Muttleys flying machines" (A Wacky Races spin-off). The New Adventures of Batman

CBS (ended 1978)

The New Adventures of Batman was produced by the Filmation> studio in 1977. This was the second Batman animated series produced by them, after the 1968-1969 series. The character designs for most of the characters (except Commissioner Gordon) were retained from the earlier series, although the more sophisticated animation technique of rotoscoping (tracing the characters' movements over live action footage) was used to give the characters a more fluid movement. Each episode also contained a short, moralistic "Bat Message" at the end. This was the first time that both Adam West and Burt Ward returned to their famous roles of Batman & Robin since the end of the live-action show in 1968. The series was actually on air at the same time as Hanna-Barbera's The All-New SuperFriends Hour, making this one of the very few times in television animation history that two characters' exploits were being produced simultaneously by two different studios. After the series' initial network run, it was then paired up with Filmation's Tarzan animated series of 1976, and known as The Batman/Tarzan Adventure Hour which ran from September 10 1977 - September 2 1978 again on CBS. The series then became part of another package known as Tarzan And The Super 7 which ran from September 9 1978 - August 30 1980 still on CBS. Dino Squad

Join the adventures of five quirky quirky teenagers, Rodger, Max, Caruso, Fiona and Buzz who suddenly, gain the powers to turn into dinosaurs! With the help of their mysterious science teacher Ms. Moynihan, the five teenagers learn to use their powers. To protect the planet from the evil Victor Veloci, Victor is very well known as the head of the company Raptor Dyne. But he is actually a 165 million-year-old anthropomorphic velociraptor, his secret identity is unknown to everyone except himself and the audience. His true plan is to turn everyone on the planet into dinosaurs, and increase the climate to that of the Mesozoic era with the goal of returning the world to how it was when dinosaurs ruled. Dino Squad is produced by DIC Entertainment. And later Cookie Jar Entertainment in 2008 and 2009. Huckleberry Hound is a blue-haired Southern dog with a fondness for the song, "My Darling, Clementine", and is a jack-of-all-trades cartoon star, appearing as a scientist (trying to neutralize a gigantic, thinking potato), a Scotland Yard detective (chasing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in Victorian London or investigating reports of a mad scientist's Frankenstein-like weiner monster in early-1900s rural England), a Foreign Legion soldier (foiling a renegade Frenchman-turned-Arab), or a modern policeman (trying to subdue an impish ape named Wee Willie). Episodes of this television series begin and end with a Huckleberry cartoon. Sandwiched between them is a cartoon with two mischievous mice, Pixie and Dixie and a cantankerous cat named Mr. Jinks. Welcome to the Josie and the Pussycats page on TV.com Josie and the Pussycats followed the adventures of an all-girl rock and roll group as they traveled the world playing gigs and along the way thwarted the weird diabolical plots of several megalomaniacs looking to rule the world. Josie began as an Archie comics character in the late 1960's, starring in her own self-titled book. The stories followed the day-to-day adventures of Josie and her girlfriend Melody. Later, the title was expanded to Josie and the Pussycats, turning Josie and Melody into a rock band, along with new friend Valerie. Singer/guitarist Josie was the level-headed leader, drummer Melody added zaniness with her half-witted remarks and effervescent charm, and tambourinist Valerie was the brains of the group, typically saving the day with her intellect and mechanical know-how. Along with the three Pussycats were roadie (and Josie's boyfriend) Alan, band manager Alexander Cabot III, his conniving sister Alexandra, and her mischievous little cat, Sebastian. Bitter and talentless Alexandra had her eye on Alan, and constantly schemed to remove Josie from the scene so she could lead the band and have Alan all to herself. Alexander often got the band into hot water with his poorly booked tour dates and general cowardice. Though this series only lasted for one season from 1970-71, the characters themselves were popular enough to get a spinoff series titled Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space which ran from 1972-73. They were also featured guest stars in The New Scooby-Doo Movies in one of three classic crossovers with Scooby-Doo and the gang in its second season. Theme Song: Josie and the Pussycats

The Perils of Penelope Pitstop was one of the two spin-offs of Wacky Races. (The other being Dastardly & Muttley in their Flying Machines.) Every episode, The Ant Hill Mob (Clyde, Dum Dum, Softy, Yuk Yuk, Snoozy, Zippy & Pockets) must protect Penelope from 'The Hooded Claw' and his henchmen, The Bully Brothers. 'The Hooded Claw' is really Penelope's guardian (Sylvester Sneekley) in disguise and wants to wipe out Penelope so that he can have her inheritence. This is one of those cartoons in the late 60s and early 70s that were short-lived, but was one of the best spin-offs created by Hanna-Barbera.moreless

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs

Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is the brainchild of Mark Schultz, who originally created the series in comic book format under the title Xenozoic Tales in the year 1986. The television series came to be through the marketing of Marvel Comics, when (years later) the company had acquired the rights to the property and attempted a revival of the popularity it once held in comic format. The series followed the exploits of survival-savvy garage mechanic Jack Tenrec, (who had a passion for restoring classic car shells, mainly those of Cadillacs) and his often-reluctant companion, the lovely foreign ambassador Hannah Dundee (who hired Jack as a liason while she attempted to create clear communication between her land and the modern civilization) as they confronted serious issues facing the futuristic environment that they (and the rest of humanity) had come to inhabit alongside many dinosaurs that were long thought to be extinct. Jack, leading his crew (a band of ecological freedom fighters known as the Mechanics), squared off against opposition in the form of the Council of Governors, the tyrannical Wilhelmina Scharnhorst and her nefarious henchmen among others. The show dealt with many strong ecologicial (one major focus was the question of how the dinosaurs managed to re-emerge after they were thought to be extinct) and political issues that were central to the plot development. As a result of that coupled with the placement amidst a programming schedule that consisted of shows mainly geared toward a younger demographic, it went virtually unnoticed. This show boasted superb animation and was surprisingly well-written. Many fans who can remember viewing it note the superior quality as one of the reasons they first started to enjoy the short-lived series. In total, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs lasted for one full season (13 episodes) and was never considered for renewal.moreless
