Daytona 500 is the annual 500 mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race that is held in Daytona Beach, Florida. The race is the most important and most prestigious race of the year for NASCAR drivers, and also has the largest purse. The first race of the year for the Sprint Cup Series, the Daytona 500 is unique, as most sports have the big game at the end of the season. NASCAR starts with a bang, coming out fast with the Super Bowl of stock car racing. The first race took place in 1949, and it has become the highest rated auto race of the year. The winner takes home the prestigious Harley J. Earl Trophy, named for the famed automobile designer who served as second commissioner of NASCAR. The Daytona International Speedway is 2.5 miles long, with drivers racing 200 laps to the finish. Join in for the high-octane start to the season, and see the world's best racers fight to take home the honor of winning the Daytona 500.moreless
