In the first sitcom to take place in the present and back in the 70s, Rewind shows us that life has a strange way of repeating itself no matter how hard we try to move on. Scott Baio stars as Rob Di Paulo, a hard-working marketing executive who feels as though many of the experiences he's having now he experienced before. He has enough trouble navigating office politics and dating the right women, so when facing a dicey situation he flashes back to teenage life for a funny parallel to what he currently is going through. Rob is constantly reminded that history repeats itself, whether he's trying to bail his fast-talking, rapidly rising friend Harv (Mystro Clark, "The Show") out of embarrassing encounters with the company president or making a play for Dana (Christine Taylor, "Party Girl"), a smart and sexy executive who happens to be the girlfriend of the corporate downsizer. In the 70s flashbacks, a whole other world and characters will emerge as Rob's hilarious childhood and friendship with Harv show us glimpses of what made the man what he is today. Adam Zolotin plays the teen Rob, with Chris Edwards portraying the teen Harv. The series was created by Boyd Hale and Tom Burkhard. Effrem Seeger and Susan Seeger are executive producers for Warner Bros. Television in association with Subway Productions. While the series was picked up by FOX for the 1997-98 season and episodes were produced, it was subsequently canceled before any of the episodes were broadcast. Must've been a wonderful series!moreless

    FOX
Courtroom-themed shows have been a staple of syndicated television for many years. One of the earliest and most enduring examples of this realtiy-based genre (long before the term "reality TV" had even been coined) is Divorce Court. It may be hard for some of today's younger audiences to believe, but the original Divorce Court bowed in 1957 and lasted 12 years in daily syndication. A new, harder-edged Divorce Court bowed in 1985 and ran another five seasons. The current version, involving real-life divorcing couples and even more hard-edged, bowed in 1999. In both versions, divorcing couples presented their stories before the judge – Voltaire Perkins in the 1950s and 1960s version; William B. Keene (best known for presiding over the William Bonin "freeway killer" trial) issued his rulings in the 1980s. A new case was presented each day, with usually – but not always – both litigants seeking a divorce. The court reporter briefed the TV audience on the basics (the names, reasons for the divorce, how long they've been married and other issues the soon-to-be ex-couples wanted resolved (including child custody and asset division)). The attorneys each gave opening statements, while the litigants, along one or two supporting witnesses, giving their side of the story and enduring cross-examination. Many of the stories involved accusations of cruelty, adultery, desertion and irreconcilable differences, while the cases often had many strange twists and turns. And – rather than focus on the henpecked wife's affair with the milkman or the husband's meddlesome mother interfering with and ultimately ruining the marriage – Divorce Court focused on more sensational cases with "shock value." For example: • A father who deliberately involved his children in "accidents" so he could collect on the insurance. He would pay them off by offering them presents and other rewards. • The woman who hosted male-stripper parties overnight while her husband was "working late" and suspected of having an affair of his own. Frequently, the judge interviewed minor children involved in cases where child custody was at issue. The judge always rendered his decision by the end of the program and resolved other divorce issues, such as alimony, division of assets and child custody. Although the cases were fiction, they were said to be based on real-life divorce cases. Many of the stories during the 1957 and 1985 versions of Divorce Court explored serious issues, including racism, alcohol and drug abuse, war, cancer, grief, pornography and much more. In later years of the 1980s version, some divorce proceedings were played out over multiple shows; litigants (instead of spending five minutes on the stand and enduring a one-minute cross-examination), now could possibly spend the entire program on the stand. The court reporters interviewed the litigants prior to each show. Unlike the 1957 and 1985 incarnations, which used actors as the litigants and student attorneys to argue each case, the 1999 revival of Divorce Court was promoted as settling real-life divorce cases invovling acutal couples. The couples presented their stories before Judge Mablean Ephriam, who gave her decision and settled the requisite divorce issues at the end of the show. On Wednesday, April 1, 2009 and Thursday, April 2, 2009, a special two-part session of Divorce Court will air starring former evangelical prearcher Ted Haggard and his wife Gayle. Ted was one of America's most influential and respected Christian leaders until his secret life unfolded in the media headlines, with accusations of a drug fueled, affair with a male prostitute. Tune in and find out what Judge Toler has to say to both Ted and Gayle about the scandal that shocked the nation and made the once popular pastor an outcast.moreless

Sherlock Holmes has been rescusitated in the 22nd century to combat Moriarty's clone. With the help of a droid programmed with the personality of Watson, Inspector Beth Lestrade of New Scotland Yard, and the Baker Street Irregulars, Holmes searches for clues and usually manages to come up with a solution that keeps everyone guessing. Characters Sherlock Holmes: Sharp as a tack, but not a real people person, this guy is pretty self explanatory. He uses deductive logic (i.e. All lights in this room are green. There is a light on the table. Therefore it must be green.) to solve crimes. If you listen hard, you can usually follow his explanation, at least by the last few minutes of the show. Watson: A compudroid programmed to have the personality of Watson (complete with the phrase "I don't understand, Holmes. How did you know..."), Watson was initially rejected by Holmes, who thought no one, and especially no robot, could replace the real Watson. Watson is great in a tight spot, as he is much stronger than the average human (and most of the non-average ones as well). Inspector Beth Lestrade: Apparently a descendant of the Lestrade in the original short stories, this girl is something else. Wild, reckless, destructive, always bucking authority, and generally "tough-cop", she is always ready to act on insufficient information. But, all in all, she usually settles down enough to be of some service at least once or twice an episode. Wiggins: A would-be boxer, this guy used to play soccer at Princeton. He is one of the Baker Street Irregulars, employed by Holmes to be an extra set of eyes, ears, and legs. Wiggins checks out leads, shadows people, and generally helps Holmes out by gathering facts. He has a girlfriend named Jacey, but as far as I know she hasn't figured into much. Deidre: This girl is also one of the Baker Street Irregulars, and does mostly the same things as Wiggins. However, she sometimes sees things a different way than either Holmes, Watson, or Wiggins, and this unique perspective makes her invaluable. Tennison: Confined to an anti-grav chair, Tennison is the computer expert of the bunch. He helps Holmes out by checking computer systems and security systems. Moriarty: Cloned back to life as an accident, he is again wreacking havoc, though this time in New London. He is Holmes' archenemy, and was basically the model for a lot of evil geniuses with extensive networks.moreless

This half-hour comedy chronicles the hilarious world of Christopher Titus and his totally messed-up poor white trash family. Between his drunken father, his dimwitted brother, and his goody-goody best friend, it's amazing Titus is alive, let alone engaged to a "normal" girl. Titus adapted Christopher Titus' stand-up routine in a novel way: each episode is narrated by Titus from a black & white "Neutral Space," from which he comments on the events as they unfold, punctuated by short, surreal flashbacks to his childhood and adolescence. The hilarious interplay between these three levels of narrative is sometimes amazingly complex and even contradictory, highlighting the exceedingly black nature of the show's humor. Alas, the Fox network lived up to its history of commissioning innovative television and then sabotaging it; the third and blackest season was made particularly incoherent by showing the sequences out of logical order. Titus never made it to syndication, and is currently unavailable — a buried gem — until its release on DVD in September 2005.moreless
