Oz is the name on the street for the Oswald State Penitentiary. Our wheelchair-bound narrator Augustus Hill (Harold Perrineau Jr.) takes us through the wacky world of Emerald City, the experimental unit started by Tim McManus (Terry Kinney). There's shankin' and lovin' and cussin' and fightin' but in the end, HBO makes a damn fine prison drama. It's gritty. And there you have it.moreless

Sexo Urbano is a documentary styled program spotlighting the business of sex in urban Latin American cities around the world. HBO's creative program blends sexy women and interesting information as we drive along with cab drivers from these metropolitan areas, and although the show is in Spanish, we learn quickly that the language of sex is spoken everywhere. In Bogota, Ricardo takes us to all the preferred spots for sex, like Avenue 15, known for both escorts and transvestites. In Buenos Aires, cab driver Luis Casas notes that the hot spot is Zona Rosa, also known for transvestites looking to seduce willing men. And although it is certainly a departure from the typical erotica found on late night cable, Sexo Urbano does not scrimp on the beauties. Plenty of lovely latinas can be found in each episode, with shots from around the cities and more intimate scenes as well. Erotic and informative, Sexo Urbano offers an interesting blend of substance among the genre of soft core sex programs.moreless

Hijos del Carnaval (Filhos do Carnaval), meaning "Sons of the Carnival" in English, is a show produced by HBO for HBO Latin America and HBO Brasil. The show launched on March of 2006. Hijos del Carnival is based in a favela, or slum-like neighborhood, in Rio de Janiero. It centers around the life of a character named Anesio Gebara (Jece Valadao), a 75 year old man who owns a samba school and is a banker for an illegal lottery house called "Animal Lottery". Anesio has 4 older sons, 2 of which are his own: Anesinho (Felipe Camargo), Claudinho (Enrique Diaz), Brown (Rodrigo dos Santos), and Nilo (Thogum). The series opens with the celebration of Anesio's 75th birthday. As the family is getting together for a celebration, they hear the most tragic news: Anesinho, the eldest son, has committed suicide. Incidentally, Anesinho was Anesio's favorite son. For the remainder of the series, the remaining 'bastard' sons try to replace Anesinho, but they realize his shoes aren't easy to fill.moreless
